Wanna know what I think? (Well, even if you don't, you're gonna hear it anyway.)

I'll guarantee you, that no one feels worse about this than Jim Joyce. He acknowledged this, the Tigers have acknowledged this as well. What they plan to do today, before Joyce has the plate for their game with Cleveland, is about as classy as it gets.

Major League Baseball is supposedly going to "review" the call, and possibly award Armando Galarraga his perfect game after all. Okay. Yeah, sure, right, whatever. From the time he moved the Pilots from Seattle to Milwaukee in 1970, to his talk about contraction, to the All-Star game tie, to steroids, to now this, Bud Selig has messed up a lot of stuff. I can't speak to the 50 no-hitters that, under the watch of Commissioner Fay Vincent, were thrown out "for various reasons." I can't, because I don't know why they were thrown out. But, if the Tigers' official scorer refuses, from the evidence he's seen, to reverse his ruling on the play(and he has publically said he's reviewed the available replays and won't reverse his decision to rule it a hit), then how can Major League Baseball do it? To do so, might be an embarrassment of monumental proportion. But, then again, who expects anything different from Mr. Selig?

Jim Joyce feels lousy about this. I would too. I've felt bad about calls I've blown in the 37 years I umpired, although, of course, nothing in one of my games ever reached anywhere near the level of what happened in Detroit last night. But, Joyce's family has already been the object of insults and abuse. If Major League Baseball reverses this call, made on the field, so far after the fact, they could be throwing their employee, Jim Joyce, and his family, so far under the bus, that they'll become a permanent part of the undercarriage. That could possibly open Joyce and his family up to more abuse and would quite possibly be a much larger mistake than Jim Joyce made on the field last night.

Of course, I might be wrong, and changing the call now could take a lot of heat off the Joyce family and baseball as well. If so, then I would be more inclined for it to be done.

A prosthetic leg washed up along the shore in Jacksonville(Florida) Beach last Thursday. It was an unusual prosthetic leg. It was a left leg and had a Willie Nelson sticker on it, reports News4Jax.com. Authorities had posted an ad on Craigslist in hopes of reuniting the leg with its owner. Finally, yesterday the owner claimed it, reports First Coast News in Jacksonville. No word on how the owner lost his leg.

For the second straight night, a big ninth inning was the difference for the Tampa Bay Rays, who grabbed another come-from-behind win over the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-3 in front of 13,517 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto last night.

The Jays scored single runs in the first two innings. Jose Bautista singled in Fred Lewis in the first and Lyle Overbay scored on a second-inning sacrifice fly by John Buck. Tampa Bay got on the board with a run in the fifth, as Reid Brignac scored on a two-out single by Carl Crawford.

The game stayed 2-1 in Toronto's favor until the ninth. The Rays tied the game as Seam Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice bunt by Dioner Navarro. They grabbed the lead as John Jaso scored on a Brignac double, and a grand-slam homer by Crawford that brought home Navarro, Brignac and B.J. Upton. The Blue Jays could only get one back in their half of the ninth, as Alex Gonzalez scored on an Overbay double, making the final score 7-3.

David Price pitched eight string innings for Tampa Bay, striking out 3 and allowing just 2 runs on 9 hits, in improving to 8-2. Shaun Marcum, who cruised through eight strong innings, took the loss after allowing 5 runs, 4 of them in the ninth on 10 hits with 2 strikeouts. He slips to 5-2.

The Rays, 36-18, lead the A.L. East by 2 1/2 games over the Yankees. Tampa Bay has tonight off, before opening a three-game set at Texas tomorrow night. Tomorrow's game starts at 8:05pm EDT on Sun Sports and MLB.TV. Saturday's game starts at 4:10pm EDT on FOX and MLB.TV with Sunday's game scheduled for a 3:05pm EDT start on Sun Sports and MLB.TV. All three games can be heard on 620 WDAE and the Rays Radio Network. Tampa Bay returns home to open a six-game home stand on Tuesday, with three games against Atlanta. The Marlins come to town for three games starting next Friday.

Here's a great story by my friend Dwight Jaynes(http://www.dwightjaynes.com) concerning last night's missed call by umpire Jim Joyce, that cost Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga a perfect game against Cleveland.

Jim Joyce has been one of the best in the game for a lot of years. The abuse he is sure to take(and has already taken) is the type of stuff that drove me out of umpiring this season after 37 years. When players, coaches/managers and fans are allowed to verbally abuse umpires over a missed call, and, at times not only threaten physical abuse, but actually carry those threats out, is it any wonder why officials associations across the country in all sports are often grievously short of officials? And those same associations damage themselves when they fail to support their officials when they are the targets of abuse, simply because they are more interested in protecting the contracts they have with local teams/leagues to cover games, rather than do what's right, which is to protect and support their members.

Such abuse of officials is ruining sports all across the United States and Canada. It's a shame. A horrible, inexcusable and entirely preventable shame.

A four-run ninth inning was the difference last night, as the Tampa Bay Rays grabbed a come-from-behind 7-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in front of 13,439 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Jays built a 5-0 lead with a run in the first, three more in the fith and another in the sixth. Fred Lewis homered in the first, John Buck hit one out in the fifth and Adam Lind drove in two with a fifth inning triple, then Alex Gonzalez scored on a sac fly in the sixth to stake Toronto to their 5-0 lead.

The Rays began their comeback in the seventh. Dioner Navarro scored on a double by Reid Brignac, who then scored on a single up the middle by Carl Crawford. Crawford came home on an infield single by Carlos Pena and Tampa Bay was within two, at 5-3.

The Rays got runners at the corners with two outs in the ninth, before mounting the rally that would give them the lead. Pena struck out looking for the second out, after being denied time by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Manager Joe Maddon, in a rare display of anger, was ejected by Hernandez for arguing the non-granting of time. John Jaso, pinch hitting for pitcher Grant Balfour(Tampa Bay had put DH Willy Aybar in at second base earlier in the game) walked, loading the bases for Ben Zobrist who drew a walk to force in Crawford. Sean Rodriguez cleared the bases with a double, driving in Longoria, Jaso and Zobrist. Then, after another walk by Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gregg, his fifth of the inning put Navarro on base, Gregg was ejected by Hernandez after being pulled from the game by manager Cito Gaston.

In the bottom of the ninth, a two-out double by Vernon Wells drove home Lewis, but Juan Bautista flew out to center to end the game, with the Rays holding on for the 7-6 win.

Grant Balfour got the win in relief for Tampa Bay, he's now 1-1. Rafael Soriano picked up his 15th save of the season. Kevin Gregg took the loss for Toronto, fanning two and walking five in 2/3 of an inning, to lose his first decision of the year.

The Rays, 35-18, lead the A/L. East by 2 1/2 games over the Yankees. The third and final game at Toronto is tonight at 7:07pm EDT on 620 WDAE and the Rays Radio Network. You can also watch the game on Sun Sports and MLB.TV. Tampa Bay begins a three-game set in Miami against the Florida Marlins tomorrow night.

Central Hockey League and International Hockey League Make Major Announcement

In a joint announcement that marks a historic day for minor professional hockey, two of pro hockey’s most storied leagues, the Central Hockey League (CHL) and International Hockey League (IHL), have entered into a letter of intent to form a “AA” level super league beginning in the 2010-11 season. We plan to play under the Central Hockey League, CHL, moniker, with the identity of the IHL being maintained through various aspects that will be announced in the near future. Leaders of the CHL and IHL will meet during the week ahead to work out the remaining material terms.

“The arrangement between the CHL and the IHL should create an innovative and exciting "AA" level professional hockey league which is scheduled to start play in the 2010-2011 season,” said Dennis Hextall, IHL Commissioner. “The two leagues each have longstanding histories and share the common goal of solidifying minor professional hockey for our players, our passionate fans and their communities. I believe this arrangement will enable our teams to recruit the best young talent to join our league, with the potential of improving their game and moving up to the higher leagues.”

“This is an exciting day for our teams and markets,” said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. “Both leagues have worked hard to establish tremendous entertainment at a great value for their fans, and by combining our resources we believe we can strengthen those efforts providing greater fan interest as well as a stronger brand.”

Operating guidelines, including the teams competing in the CHL, divisional alignment, the 2010-11 regular season schedule and various hockey operations issues will be discussed at the CHL Summer Conference (league meetings) occurring June 3-5 in Gilbert, Arizona and will continue at the IHL meetings in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 21-23.

The CHL competed with 15 teams during the 2009-10 season with the Rapid City Rush taking home the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup title, while the IHL competed with seven teams with the Fort Wayne Komets winning their seventh Turner Cup Championship and third straight league title.

This will be the 19th season for the CHL whose teams cover nine states. The league saw close to two million fans attend games in each of the last two seasons and has regularly been the North American professional “AA” hockey league leader in average attendance. This season, the CHL was the top “AA” hockey league in playoff attendance. In the league’s history, a total of 88 players have played in both the National Hockey League and the CHL.

The 2010-2011 season will mark the 60th year of professional hockey for the International Hockey League, which was comprised last season of seven Midwestern teams in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. More than 900,000 fans attended IHL hockey games this past season, and a sell-out crowd of 10,480 fans watched the Fort Wayne Komets win the 2010 Turner Cup over the Flint Generals at the Coliseum last month. Nine players who played on IHL teams this past season had prior NHL experience, while many more have played for their respective national teams and professionally abroad. The IHL's Commissioner, Dennis Hextall, spent more than ten years as a player in the National Hockey League, and serves as President of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association.

Brandon Morrow carried a no-hitter into the sixth and allowed just one run in seven-plus innings, and Adam Lind hit a first inning two-run homer, leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays last night, in front of 11,335 in the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Lind's homer, his 8th of the season, came with Aaron Hill on base, staking the Jays to a 2-0 lead. Hill brought in Fred Lewis with a fifth inning single, edging the lead up to 3-0. Tampa Bay mounted their usual late game rally, with two in the eighth. B.J. Upton drove in John Jaso with a one-out triple to right, then scored on Willy Aybar's ground out to second. The Rays got runners at the corners in the ninth with one out, as Evan Longoria tripled and Carlos Pena walked. Longoria was thrown out at home by shortstop Alex Gonzalez on Jaso's grounder. Kevin Gregg came out of the bullpen and got Gabe Kapler to ground to short, with the force on Jason at second ending the game and giving Toronto the win.

Morrow got the win for the Blue Jays, he's now 4-4. Tampa Bay starter Matt Garza, allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits with 3 strike outs in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss, he's now 5-4.
