University of Wisconsin Finishes Season No. 1
in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Wisconsin, which last weekend defeated No. 3 Boston College and No. 2 Boston University en route to its fourth NCAA Division I national championship in six years, ends the 2010-11 season as the No. 1 team in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Badgers, who finish the season with a 37-2-2 overall record, collected 190 points and all 19 first-place votes to earn the poll's top spot for the 17th time this season.
Boston University (165), which capped its season with the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Women's Frozen Four and a berth in the national title game, is No. 2. The remaining two NCAA Women's Frozen Four participants -- Boston College (140) and Cornell University (139) -- end the season at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while the University of Minnesota Duluth (114) rounds out the top five.
NOTES: In addition to the University of Wisconsin, three other teams held the No. 1 ranking in the poll this season, including the University of Minnesota Duluth, which was named the preseason No. 1, Mercyhurst College and Cornell University ... Seven teams remained on the poll throughout the entire season ... The University of Wisconsin's Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) was named the recipient of the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. In its 14th year, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given out annually by the USA Hockey Foundation to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. Duggan, a senior forward and team captain, received the award during a sold-out award ceremony and brunch, held at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, Pa. on March 19. University of North Dakota Remains No. 1
in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of North Dakota remains No. 1 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll after defeating No. 13 Colorado College and No. 5 University of Denver en route to its 15th Western Collegiate Hockey Association title. North Dakota, which improved to 30-8-3 overall, collected 503 points and 27 first-place votes to earn the top spot for the fifth week in a row.
Boston College claims the No. 2 spot with 480 points and six first-place votes after capturing the Hockey East title with wins over Northeastern University and No. 7 Merrimack College, while Yale University remains at No. 3 with 441 points and one first-place vote after defeating Colgate University and Cornell University to claim the ECAC Hockey crown. Miami University (402) advances two places to No. 4 after earning the Central Collegiate Hockey Association title with wins over No. 9 University of Notre Dame and No. 10 Western Michigan University, while the University of Denver (353) rounds out the top five following a victory over Bemidji State University and a loss to No. 1 North Dakota in double overtime of the WCHA championship game.
Rensselaer returns to the poll at No. 15 following a two-week hiatus after earning an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament.
The NCAA tournament begins this weekend with seven top-15 match-ups in the NCAA regional semifinals on Friday (March 25) and Saturday (March 26). The regional finals will be played on Saturday and Sunday (March 27), with the winners advancing to the NCAA Men's Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn., April 7-9.
NOTES: The WCHA leads all conferences with five ranked programs, while the CCHA boasts four ranked programs and Hockey East and ECAC Hockey each have three ... A total of 18 teams received votes.

A BIG TIME reshuffling of the Oregon State football staff, just in time for the start of spring ball. Brett Brennan, who was the San Jose State WRs coach is the new Beavers’ wide receivers coach. Jay Locey is moving back to the tight ends. But it doesn’t end there -- even defensive coordinator Mark Banker is changing positions and the longest tenured assistant on the OSU staff is moving on.
OSU Sports Information confirmed what had previously been reported on varying media, including that defensive coordinator Mark Banker moves over to coach the linebackers. Corners coach Keith Heyward will now also mentor the safeties, previously coached by Banker.
That puts Greg Newhouse, who completed his 14th year at Oregon State in 2010, out of the mix. OSU’s statement said Newhouse, who coached the linebackers, "was offered another position" within the program but elected to pursue other opportunities. Newhouse spent 14 seasons at Oregon State in a variety of assistant coach roles on the defense.

San Jose State wide receivers coach Brent Brennan has the new receivers coach. Jay Locey moves to tight ends from wide receivers. Defensive coordinator Mark Banker moves to linebackers from safeties. Keith Heyward, who previously coached the corners, adds safeties and becomes the defensive backs coach. Newhouse, who coached the linebackers, is leaving OSU.
Brennan over his SJSU career held the positions of co-offensive coordinator, tight ends coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Prior to his tenure at San Jose State, Brennan spent four seasons (2001-04) as the wide receivers/slotback coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He previously held graduate assistant roles at UW, Arizona and Hawaii. He played for UCLA as a wide receiver in the early 90s.
All this comes on the heels of Oregon State hiring Chris Brasfield as the new running backs coach, who comes to OSU after a one-year stint as the graduate assistant coach for defense for the Ducks.
