USA Hockey Announces Roster Designations for
U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp 
Camp Includes Olympic Day Celebration on June 22 and USWNT Roster Announcement on June 24
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today the blue and white team designations at its U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp that will be taking place in Lake Placid, N.Y., June 18-23. The 41 athletes participating in the selection camp have been separated into two groups for daily practice sessions and off-ice training as well as four intrasquad scrimmages. The camp will culminate with the announcement of the U.S. Women’s National Team on June 24. Those players will train together and participate in various competitions in the build-up to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
NOTES: Team Blue will be coached by Mark Hudak (Hanover, N.H./Dartmouth College) and Brian Durocher (Longmeadow, Mass./Boston University) and Team White by Laura Halldorson (Minneapolis, Minn./University of Minnesota) and Brett Strott (Bradenton Fla./Tampa Bay Junior Hockey Club). All team practices and pre-game skates are open to the public. Tickets to the scrimmages on June 19-20, 23 can be purchased at the Olympic Center Box Office or by calling 518-523-3330. On June 22 as part of the camp, USA Hockey will participate in Lake Placid's Olympic Day celebration. Those wearing red, white and blue or USA apparel will be admitted free of charge to the scrimmage with an autograph session featuring all players to follow exclusively for those attending.

The 2013 National Concrete Canoe Competition begins Thursday at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Twenty three teams from around the U.S. will compete in a competition which provides students with a practical application of the engineering principles they learn in the classroom.

... According the competition website, while concrete has become the most widely used building material in the world, it remains a mystery to many. However, the use of concrete in floating vessels is not new. In fact, the history of concrete boat building dates back to 1848, when Joseph Louis Lambot built thin-walled reinforced concrete boats for use at his estate in Miraval, France. Concrete was also used to build barges during World War II to replace scarce steel supplies.

A paper published in the journal Nature reports on some water that had been trapped 1½ miles below the Earth's surface in Canada for a long while. Scientists believe it to be the oldest isolated water ever studied, at least 1 billion years old and maybe as old as 2.64 billion. One of the paper's authors, Barbara Sherwood Lollar, has tasted it, and it was "terrible. It is much saltier than seawater."
