Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, December 7th, 2018













Prince Albert Raiders 5, Brandon Wheat Kings 2

Raiders scored 4 times in the second to put it away. Noah Gregor, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Cole Fonstad had a goal and assist each for the Raiders, who are now 27-1-0-1. Eric Pearce and Sean Montgomery scored one each, Donovan Buskey made 24 saves. For Brandon, Ben McCartney and Connor Gutenberg scored goals, Jiri Patera made 36 saves, with 3,738 in attendance at Westoba Place.

Moose Jaw Warriors 3, Saskatoon Blades 2

Warriors scored once in each period to win, in front of 3,236 at SaskTel Centre. Luke Ormsby, Tristan Langan on the power play and Brayden Tracey, on the power play midway through the third with the game-winner for Moose Jaw, Brodan Salmond made 33 saves. For the Blades, Eric Florchuk and Josh Paterson scored, Nolan Maier made 22 saves. Langan added two assists for the Warriors, who went 2-for-3 on the power play and 5-of-5 on the penalty kill.

Calgary Hitmen 3, Swift Current Broncos 2

Calgary's Josh Prokop scored the game-winner with 23 seconds left in regulation. Egor Zamula scored earlier in the third and Riley Stotts in the second for the Hitmen, who got 11 saves from Jack McNaughton. Swift Current's Joona Kiviniemi and Ethan O'Rourke scored, Isaac Poulter made 42 saves for the Broncos. Game played at the Scotiabank Saddledome in front of a crowd of 5,560.

Red Deer Rebels 4, Regina Pats 3 (SO)

Regina built a 3-1 lead early in the third, but the Rebels fought back with two late ones, then won it in the shootout. Brandon Hagel opened the scoring late in the first for Red Deer, before the Pats took over with second period goals by Austin Pratt and Sergei Alkhimov and an early third period by Scott Mahovlich. Red Deer responded with goals by Cameron Hausinger  and Alex Morozoff to tie it. The Rebels' Brett Davis round two marker was the only shootout goal between the two teams and was the game decider. Ethan Anders made 25 saves for Red Deer, Max Paddock 32 for Regina. Attendance at the Enmax Centrium was 3,721.

Kelowna Rockets 2, Victoria Royals 0

Lane Zablocki and Nolan Foote, on the power play into an empty net, scored third period goals and Roman Basran made 16 saves, to power Kelowna to the win, before 4,822 at Prospera Place. Griffen Outhouse made 30 saves for Victoria.

Portland Winterhawks 5, Prince George Cougars 2

Joachim Blichfeld and Seth Jarvis pointed Portland towards victory with a pair of first period power play goals, Robbie Fromm-Delorme, Cody Glass short handed and John Ludvig added goals in the second and Shane Farkas made 23 saves to lead the Hawks to the win before 5,183 at the Moda Center. Josh Maser in the second and VladislavMikhalchuk in the third scored power play goals for Prince George, with the tandem of Taylor Gauthier and Isaiah DiLaura combining for 30 saves. Portland went 2-for-2 on the power play, the Cougars were 2-for-8.

Spokane Chiefs 6, Lethbridge Hurricanes 2

Spokane scored twice in each period to cruise to the win, before 5,011 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Riley Woods and Luc Smith had 2 goals and 1 assist each, Jake McGrew and Cordel Larson scored once each, Eli Zummack contributed 4 assists to the winning effort and Bailey Brkin made 28 saves for the Chiefs, who went 3-for-4 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill. For Lethbridge, Igor Merezhko and Jackson Shepard scored goals, Carl Tetachuk and Reece Klassen teamed up to make 23 saves.

Seattle Thunderbirds 4, Tri-City Americans 1

A 3 goal third period sparked Seattle to their 4th road victory of the season and 10th victory over all, in front of 3,214 at the Toyota Center. For the Thunderbirds, Zack Andrusiak scored a mere 14 seconds into the contest, followed with third period goals by Dillon Hamaliuk, Simon Kubicek and Matthew Wedman into an empty net. The Tri-City goal was scored by Captain Nolan Yaremko and came on the power play. Cole Schwebius stood tall in the Seattle goal, making 21 saves. At the other end, despite allowing 4, Beck Warm was outstanding for the Americans, making 39 saves
