Around the Dub

Here's what's happening around the Western Hockey League:

Edmonton holds on to the #1 spot in the WHL. The Oil Kings have 23 points and are the only team with 10 wins. Lethbridge and Prince Albert are both at 21 points. They, along with Everett, Kamloops and Medicine Hat, all have 9 wins. The Regina Pats are the league's only 10 loss team. They are 1-8--1-0 in their past 10.

Highest single game goal output in the past week is just 5. Calgary and Moose Jaw rang up that totals in wins last Sunday over Regina and Saskatoon respectively. The only shutout was a 1-0 Kelowna win at Victoria this past Wednesday.

Moose Jaw's Brayden Tracey had the league's only hat trick, scoring 3 in Sunday's 5-4 win over Saskatoon. In that 1-0 Kelowna win at Victoria on Wednesday, Cole Schweibus made 33 saves for the Blazers.

No team has scored more than 1 shorthanded goals in a single game. Edmonton, on October 12th and Kamloops, on October 18th, are tied for most power play goals in a single game this season, with 4.

Connor Zary of Kamloops leads the WHL in scoring. His 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points have come in 14 games. Adam Beckman of Spokane has 5 goals and 15 assists for 20 points have come in 13 games.

Bryce Kindopp of Everett, Dylan Cozens of Lethbridge and Chase Wouters of Saskatoon and tied for the league lead with 10 goals. Zary's 16 assists are best in the league. Bowen Byram on Vancouver tops the charts with 33 penalty minutes. Sebastian Cossa of Edmonton is best in net with a 1.56 goals against average. His .948 goals against average is also best.

Despite their slow start, the Regina Pats lead the league in attendance, with an average of 5,386 in 8 games, aided by the 15,401 in this past Sunday's outdoor game vs Calgary, a 5-4 Hitmrn overtime win.

Transactions:

Just two deals this past week. On Monday, Swift Current sent a 9th round conditional pick to Winnipeg for Justin Svenson. Then, on Tuesday, Brandon moved Caiden Daiey to Regina for Duncan Pierce.

Around the league, there are 8 games tonight, 9 games Saturday and 5 games Sunday. Have fun, get out and support your local team and take a friend of 20 with you!
