The Tampa Bay Juniors' season is over. After giving themselves life with a convincing game two win, a mini-game overtime goal ended their season as the Hampton Roads Junior Whalers won 1-0, to advance to the league tournament next weekend in Atlanta.

Four goals from Paul Lochner, plus singles from Anthony Feldman, DJ Thomas and Dustin Disbro, plus 32 saves from Evan Weiss, propelled the Juniors to a 7-3 win, squaring the best-of-three series at a game apiece. Hampton Roads' Chris Radague, Kellan Lessard and Matt Culcasi scored first period goals, to forge a 3-3 tie after one. Tampa Bay would add Feldman's goal in the second, plus three more in the third, to force a deciding ten minute 'mini-game.' After the two teams battled through a scoreless ten minutes, they would saddle up for another ten minutes, this time being sudden death. The end would come at 7:55, when Rick Loveless scored in tight to win the game 1-0 for the Whalers. Hampton Roads outshot Tampa Bay 35-33 in the regular game, and 16-8 in the 'mini-game.' Evan Weiss stopped a total of 37 shots on the night for the Juniors, while the Whalers' Dylan Snyder and Justin Lindgren combined for 31 saves. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Tampa Bay Juniors, including playoffs, finish the season with a record of 18-20-0-2.

Director M. Night Shymalan's The Last Airbender won a Razzie over the weekend for the year's worst movie. It also won for worst screenplay, and Shmayalan picked up the nod for worst director. The Tampa Bay Juniors have had an interesting season, to say the least. Four goals in 46 seconds in a mid-December game. Three goals in 37 seconds in a game earlier this month. Then, just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier, look at last night: Five power play goals against in a 5-4 first-game playoff loss to the Hampton Roads Junior Whalers at the Tampa Bay Skating Academy in Oldsmar, Florida.

The Juniors built a 2-1 lead in the first period on even-strength goals from Patrick Rodgers (assisted by Andrew Silvers) at 9:42, and Silvers (from Paul Lochner) at 17:30, just 13 seconds after Matthew Culcasi scored Hampton Roads' first power play goal of the light.

After a scoreless second period, things heated up in the third, with the two teams comibining for six power play goals. Chase Anderson scored at 3:34 (assisted by Lochner and Scott Vargas) to give Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead. The Whalers would then score three straight power play goals to grab the lead: Dylan Woods at 9:18(5-on-3); Jamie Lasher at 9:40; and Culcasi at 14:08, taking a 4-3 lead. The Juniors would respond with a 5-on-3 power play of their own at 17:37, with Richard Hill tying the game (assisted by Rodgers) 4-4. With overtime looming, another Tampa Bay penalty would pave the way for Cody Pessig to score on the power play with just 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation time, winning the game for Hampton Roads, 5-4.

As you would expect, both goaltenders were busy. Braxton Schulz made 37 saves for Tampa Bay, while Dylan Snyder made 46 for the Whalers. Hampton Roads went a stunning 5-for-5 on the power play, while the Juniors went a solid 2-for-4.

With the Whalers' game one win, it sets up this scenario for tonights game two: Tampa Bay needs to win to square the best-of-three series and force a deciding 'mini-game:' 10 minutes (non-sudden death) played immediately following the conclusion of game two. If the 'mini-game' is tied, another one will be played, until a winner is determined. The action starts tonight at 7:00pm EST at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex, with the live broadcast available at fasthockey.com.
