A couple of the numbers from Friday's Rider win at Hamilton are pretty impressive. Saskatchewan out-gained the Tiger-Cats through the air 390 to 248, and bested them in total yardage 500 to 405. Hamilton, ON. -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders clicked on both sides of the ball Friday night in their season opener, beating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 43-16, in front of 25,682 fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Riders got on the board first, taking their second possession 86 yards in 9 plays, ending with a Darian Durant to Weston Dressler 9 yard touchdown pass. Chris Milo converted, giving Saskatchewan a 7-0 lead with 4:06 to play in the first. The Ti-Cats responded, getting a Luca Congi field goal with 1:11 left, cutting the Rider lead to 7-3 after one.

It was a one point game 4:45 into the second, as Congi kicked a 23 yard field goal, slicing the deficit to 7-6. On Saskatchewan's next possession, Durant threw to Dressler, who snagged the ball on the turf, got up and ran for a 52 yard gain. Hamilton didn't challenge the play and the Roughriders had the ball at the Tiger-Cat 29. Soon after, Durant found Chris Getzlaf for a 26 yard major. Milo converted and the lead was 14-6 at the 6:23 mark. Hamilton made a bid to get back in it, as Chevon Walker would take a hand-off on the Ti-Cat's first play of their next possession. After clearing the line, Walker did the rest, rumbling 89 yards for a touchdown. Congi converted and the Saskatchewan lead was down to 1 at 14-13 with 7:57 left in the opening half. The lead grew by a deuce to 16-13 when Hamilton punter Josh Bartel conceded a safety with 4:35 to go in the half. The Riders would take that lead into halftime, after Milo hit the left upright from 30 yards out on the final play of the half.

Saskatchewan would put it away in the second half, outscoring the Ti-Cats 27-3. In the third, Durant found Dressler along the left side for a 22 yard major. With the Milo convert, the lead was up to 23-13 just 1:27 into the third. Congi's 37 yard field goal with 9:20 left in the third made it 23-16 Riders, who would then pull away from there. Milo hit a 49 yard field goal with 9:01 left for a 26-16 lead, Durant hit Dressler in the left flat with a 6 yard major and Milo converted, putting the lead at 33-16 with just 3 ticks left in the third.

Saskatchewan's lead grew to 36-16 4 minutes into the final period on a Milo 41 yard field goal, then the capper came with 1:35 to play. Kory Sheets finished up a 3 play, 58 yard drive, going 14 yards around right end for his first CFL major. Milo converted and the Riders would go on to win, 43-16.

For Saskatchewan, Darian Durant was 25 of 34 passing for 390 yards and 4 touchdowns. Weston Dressler caught 13 balls for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns, Chris Getzlaf had 3 catches for 96 yards and 1 touchdown, Kory Sheets rushed 12 times for 80 yards and 1 touchdown and Chris Milo kicked 2 field goals and 5 converts. For the Tiger-Cats, Henry Burris was 28 of 39 passing for 284 yards and 1 interception, Chevon Walker had 7 carries for 132 yards and 1 touchdown and Luca Congi kicked 3 field goals and 1 convert.

The Riders take their 1-0 record home to Mosaic Field on Sunday, July 8th, when they host the Edmonton Eskimos. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm EDT on 620CKRM and the Rider Radio Network, as well as TSN in Canada and ESPN3.com in the U.S. Hamilton tries to even their record on Friday, July 6th, when they travel to Vancouver to meet the defending Grey Cup champion B.C.
