
Vincent Lecavalier scored twice and Mike Smith made 30 saves, to help the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 road win over the Phoenix Coyotes, in front of 9,503 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona on Monday night.
Lecavalier slipped home a backhander at 5:59, Alex Tanguay wristed home a power play goal at 14:44 for the Lightning and Adrian Aucoin blasted home a goal for Phoenix at 19:20 in the first period, and the Lightning found themselves up 2-1 after one.
Martin St. Louis scored on a wrister at 4:30 of the second, and Lecavalier scored again at 11:46 of the third for Tampa Bay, who rode Smith's broad shoulders to the victory.
The Lightning cruised to the victory, despite being outshot 31-19. Jason Labarbera made 15 saves for the Coyotes. Phoenix was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Tampa Bay was 1-for-6.
The Lightning are now 8-4-6 for 22 points, second in the Southeast, 8 points behind division-leading Washington. The Coyotes are 11-9-0 for 22 points, tied for third in the Pacific with Dallas, 6 points behind second place Los Angeles and 8 points behing first place San Jose.
Tampa Bay continues their road trip on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks. Faceoff is set for 10:00p.m. EST. The game can be heard on 620 WDAE radio. There is no TV.
