This just in....
Bobby Thomson, the man who hit "The shot heard 'round the world," capping a sensational rise in the standings by the New York Giants, who then won a three-game playoff over the Brooklyn Dodgers to claim the National Pennant in 1951, has passed away at his home in Savannah, Georgia. He was 86.

Thomson's "Shot heard 'round the World" off the Dodgers Ralph Branca, to win the 1951 National League pennant. The Giants came from a 13 1/2 game deficit in mid-August to force a three-game playoff against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
