2011 U.S. Men's National University Team Pre-Tournament Series Announced

Team to Face Three NCAA Opponents Prior to 2011 Winter World University Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2011 U.S. Men's National University Team will travel to Vermont from Dec. 27-29 to play games against NCAA opponents Castleton State College, Saint Michael's College and the University of Vermont.

The games are part of Team USA's preparations for the 2011 Winter World University Games, which will take place Jan. 27-Feb. 6, in Erzurum, Turkey.

The U.S. will face NCAA Division III Castleton State College on Dec. 27 in Rutland, Vt., before traveling to South Burlington, Vt., to face NCAA Division II Saint Michael's College on Dec. 28.

Team USA will play its final pre-tournament game against NCAA Division I University of Vermont on Dec. 29, in Burlington, Vt.

The 2011 Winter World University Games is a biannual multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The international competition is staged in both the summer and the winter, similar to the Olympic Games. For more information on the 2011 Winter World University Games, click here.

2011 WINTER WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES FORMAT

The 2011 Winter World University Games will feature 12 teams divided into three pools - A, B and C - competing in a round-robin format. The United States will compete in Pool C alongside Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Spain. The Czech Republic, Japan, Russia and Turkey will comprise Pool A, while Belarus, Canada, Slovenia and South Korea will comprise Pool B. After the preliminary round, six teams will advance to the qualifying round and six teams will advance to the relegation round.

University of Wisconsin New No. 1 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Wisconsin claims the No. 1 ranking in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll after earning two victories over The Ohio State University last weekend. The Badgers accumulated 178 points and 10-of-19 first-place votes to earn the top spot for the first time this season.

Cornell University drops one spot to No. 2 with 175 points and eight first-place votes after twice defeating Robert Morris University. The University of Minnesota Duluth remains in the No. 3 spot with 147 points and one first-place vote, having defeated the University of Connecticut in a weekend series, while Mercyhurst College (143) remains at No. 4. Boston University (114) rounds out the top five, following wins over St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University.

This weekend will feature two top-10 match-ups, as No. 3 University of Minnesota Duluth hosts No. 6 University of Minnesota for a weekend series.

NOTES: The Western Collegiate Hockey Association leads all conferences with five ranked teams, while the Hockey East Association and ECAC Hockey each have two. Mercyhurst College is the only College Hockey America team ranked ... A total of 14 teams received votes.

Art Berglund Selected to Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2011

Longtime USA Hockey Adminstrator to Join Hall in April 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Art Berglund, who was recently inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2010, has been selected to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

Berglund, along with fellow inductees Jason Elam, Keli McGregor, Bobby Unser, Larry Walker and Alfred Williams, will be formally enshrined at the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Banquet on Tues., April 12, 2011, at the Denver Marriott City Center. Berglund's career in international ice hockey spans portions of five decades, during which time he managed or served on the administrative staff of more than 30 U.S. teams in a variety of tournaments worldwide.

In addition to his work as USA Hockey's director of national teams and international activities for 11 years, as well as the organization's senior director of international administration for nine years, Berglund previously managed the Broadmoor World Arena and worked as a National Hockey League scout. Among his many international assignments, Berglund served as the general manager of nine U.S. Men's National Teams and eight U.S. National Junior Teams, and was involved with six U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Teams.

He received the NHL's prestigious Lester Patrick Award in 1992 and was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 2008 and the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy recited the formula for success against the Rangers in the World Series. It sounded a lot like the blueprint for winning any other game against any other team.
