Lauren Wilson to Help Raise Money for USA Hockey's Brendan Burke Internship

Ron Wilson's Daughter to Compete in Beach2Battleship Half Ironman in Honor of Brendan Burke

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Lauren Wilson, the daughter of Ron Wilson, head coach of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team and the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs, will compete in her first half ironman, the 70.3 mile Beach2Battleship Triathlon, on Nov. 13, in Wilmington, N.C., in honor of the late Brendan Burke.

Wilson's goal is to help raise money for USA Hockey's Brendan Burke Internship, which has been established in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2010, at age 21.

Brendan, the son of Brian Burke, general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and the Toronto Maple Leafs, was a student at Miami University and served as a hockey operations assistant with Miami's men's ice hockey team. The Brendan Burke Internship was created in April 2010 as an annual 12-month internship for a recent college graduate interested in pursuing hockey operations as a career.

To support her goal, Wilson has created a website - 703-BrendanBurke.com - where donations to the Brendan Burke Internship can be made.

NOTES: Cole Burkhalter (Knoxville, Tenn.), the first-ever recipient of the Brendan Burke Internship, is currently fulfilling his duties in the hockey operations department at USA Hockey's national office in Colorado Springs, Colo.
