Tampa Bay Juniors Report

The Tampa Bay Juniors SEJHL and MJHL teams were in action over the weekend at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex in Ellenton, Florida. The SEJHL team dropped a pair of games to the Palm Beach Hawks, while the MJHL team won two tough contests from the East Coast Eagles.

On Saturday, Michael Hirschauer and Zack White scored goals and Dominic Calandra made 34 saves, but it wasn't enough, as the SEJHL Juniors lost 5-2. Hirschauer's goal tied the game 1-1, but 4 straight goals, including two in ten seconds tilted the game in Hawks' favor.

In Saturday's MJHL game, Ryan Nelson and Paul Lochner scored to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead over the Eagles. After an East Coast goal cut the lead in half, Scott Vargas and Chase Anderson scored goals just seven seconds apart to put the Juniors in firm control of the contest. Nelson's second goal of the game late in the third period rounded out the scoring and combined with Braxton Schulz's 23 saves, lifted Tampa Bay to a 5-2 win.

On Sunday, the SEJHL Juniors trailed 3-2 after one and 5-3 after two, but were outscored 4-0 in the third and lost 9-3. Cody Post, Ben Winter and Brian Rotherberger scored goals for Tampa Bay, and Jordan Krueger made 36 saves.

In Sunday's MJHL game, East Coast scored first, but Tampa Bay would score three straight to take a 3-1 lead early in the third. After an Eagles' goal shaved the advantage to 3-2, two more Tampa Bay goals but Chase Anderson, who scored four goals in the game, would give the Juniors a 5-2 win. Three of Anersons' goals were scored on the power play and the other came shorthanded. Paul Lochner scored the other Tampa Bay goal, while Evan Weiss made 31 saves.

After the weekend's results, the SEJHL Juniors sit third in the league with 4 wins and 9 losses, good for 8 standings points. The MJHL Juniors improve to 4-8 for 8 points, good for third place.

Coming up this week, the SEJHL and MJHL Juniors host the Hampton Roads Junior Whalers on Thursday and Friday, October 28th and 29th at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex. The SEJHL games start at 4:30pm EDT both days, with the MJHL games starting at 7:15pm EDT.
