Five U.S. Teams to Compete Next Week During International Break

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five U.S. teams are set to compete next week (Nov. 8-14) during the first international hockey break of the 2010-11 season, including the U.S. National Under-17 Team, U.S. Women's Select Team, U.S. National Under-18 Team, U.S. Junior Select Team and the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will host the 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup in the Chicago suburb of Woodridge, Ill., while the U.S. Women's Select Team will play in the 2010 Women's Four Nations Cup, in St. John's, N.L.

Meanwhile, the U.S. National Under-18 Team will compete in the 2010 Under-18 Four Nations Cup, in Sundsvall, Sweden, and the U.S. Junior Select Team will take part in the 2010 World Junior A Challenge, held in Penticton, B.C. Finally, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will host the 2010 Three Nation Sled Hockey Exhibition Series in Rochester, N.Y.

U.S. TO HOST 2010 UNDER-17 FOUR NATIONS CUP IN CHICAGO SUBURB OF WOODRIDGE

The 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup will take place Nov. 9-13, at Seven Bridges Ice Arena, in the Chicago suburb of Woodridge, Ill. The tournament will feature the top under-17 men's players from Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States. The U.S. National Under-17 Team is the tournament's defending champion, having captured the 2009 title in Trnava, Slovakia.

2010 UNDER-18 FOUR NATIONS CUP SET TO BEGIN IN SUNDSVALL, SWEDEN

The 2010 Under-18 Four Nations Cup will be held Nov. 12-14, at Sundsvall Arena in Sundsvall, Sweden. The U.S. National Under-18 Team will compete against Finland, Sweden and Switzerland, and will look to defend the tournament title, having captured first place at the 2009 Under-18 Four Nations Cup in Finland.

U.S. TO HOST 2010 THREE NATION SLED HOCKEY EXHIBITION SERIES

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will face off against Canada and Japan in the 2010 Three Nation Sled Hockey Exhibition Series, Nov. 10-14, at The Sports Centre at MCC in Rochester, N.Y. The event, in which the U.S. will play each team once, is Team USA's second exhibition series of the year.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants general manager Brian Sabean always has favored free agency as a "clean" method of player acquisition, since it avoids the loss of potentially useful players that trades cause.

Expect Sabean to strive to be particularly spotless this offseason, now that the Giants are World Series champions.

The Giants' success validated Sabean's insistence on not trading any of the club's talented pitching. He's not about to break up that group in the wake of the Giants' first Series conquest in the franchise's San Francisco history.
