1964 - Elvis Presley's single "Kissin' Cousins" hit #12 in the U.S.

1970 - Elvis Presley's single "Kentucky Rain" hit #16 in the U.S. The song was written by Eddie Rabbit.

1970 - Elvis Presley's "Don't Cry Daddy" hit #8 in the U.K.

1981 - An updated version of Elvis Presley's album "Guitar Man" hit #43 in the U.K.


Newsweek asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take America's official citizenship test and 29 percent couldn't name the vice president. Overall, 38 percent failed the test.


Today in Beatles History:

1964 - The Beatles single "She Loves You" hit #1 in the U.S.

1964 - The Beatles single "I Saw Her Standing There" hit #14 in the U.S.

1970 - The Beatles single "Let It Be" hit #2 in the U.K.

1984 - Part of Central Park in New York was renamed Strawberry Fields in honor of John Lennon.


AT&T will buy T-Mobile USA in a deal valued at $39 billion. Will they call it AT&T-Mobile?


Today in Sports History:

1946 - The Los Angeles Rams signed Kenny Washington. Washington was the first black player to join a National Football League team since 1933.

1946 - The first Mexican League baseball game was played.

1953 - The Boston Celtics beat Syracuse Nationals (111-105) in four overtimes to eliminate them from the Eastern Division Semifinals. A total of seven players (both teams combined) fouled out of the game.

1968 - The new American League franchise in Kansas City, MO, took the nickname Royals.

1973 - Frank Mohovlich (Montreal Canadiens) became the 5th NHL player to score 500 career goals.

1994 - Wayne Gretzky tied Gordie Howe's NHL record of 801 goals.

1994 - Michael Jordan was cut from the White Sox roster and was sent to their minor league club.

2004 - In Philadelphia, Veterans Stadium was demolished.

2004 - The NHL suspended Calgary Flames coach-general manager Darryl Sutter and forward Krzysztof Oliwa. Sutter was suspended for two games for player selection and team conduct in the final 2.5 seconds of the game. Oliwa was suspended for his conduct after being given a penalty for physical abuse of officials. The Flames lost to the Nashville Predators 3-1.

2004 - Mark Messier (New York Rangers) was ejected after he spearing Martin Strbak (Pittsburgh Penguins). Messier was later suspended for two games by the NHL.


In Michigan some Girl Scouts were selling cookies outside of a grocery store when a man came up to them and took the cash box and fled. The mother of one of the Scouts took off after the man. She helped track down the man to a nearby apartment complex where he was arrested by police.


BRISTOL, Tenn. -- The question isn't whether Kyle Busch will win at Bristol Motor Speedway -- it's how soon, if ever, someone else will find a way to keep him out of Victory Lane.

First off pit road after stops under caution on Lap 429 of Sunday's Jeff Byrd 500, Busch held off pole-sitter Carl Edwards and defending race winner Jimmie Johnson to win his fifth consecutive race in NASCAR's top three national series at the .533-mile short track.

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- So what else is new? Kyle Busch hit another milestone in Saturday’s Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Yes, he won the race. That’s almost a given in the Nationwide Series these days. The victory was Busch’s second of the year and the 45th of his career, leaving him four behind Mark Martin (idle Saturday) for the career lead.
