SEATTLE -- Normally, opposing teams gush over Jeremy Hellickson's changeup after the first time they see him.
In contrast, Seattle faced Hellickson for the first time Saturday, and rather than talk of the rookie right-hander's changeup, fastball talk trickled out of the Mariners' clubhouse after the Rays won, 3-2, with 28,843 fans watching at Safeco Field.
"[He's got a] live fastball, and his fastball is what makes his other pitches good," Adam Kennedy said. "It comes out of his hand well and he's in the strike zone on both sides of the plate. He's a good pitcher."

SAN FRANCISCO --  If the Giants offense truly heated up with the warm weather on their last road trip to St. Louis, as manager Bruce Bochy suggested, then it should come as no surprise that a rainy Saturday gave way to another dreary day for the team's bats.
Madison Bumgarner pitched well enough to win had he received the run support provided the past five games, when the team totaled 32 runs, but all he got was a Cody Ross solo home run as the Giants lost, 2-1, to the Rockies in AT&T Park. San Francisco mustered only four hits off Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin and the Colorado bullpen.

The final lap of an auto race is usually a blur of speed.
Saturday night's STP 300 was something else. Justin Allgaier coasted across the finish line to win. He ran out of fuel after passing Carl Edwards on Chicagoland Speedway's backstretch when Edwards ran out of fuel.
Both were going about 50 mph when they rolled across the finish line, even as Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne was barreling toward them from behind. Bayne finished third.
