KANSAS CITY -- After 10 consecutive games battling the Yankees and Red Sox, the schedule told the Rays they would have a chance to catch their breath on Friday night in Kansas City.
After all, the Royals sat in last place in the American League Central, 18 games under .500. Alas, the Royals started hitting at the beginning of the game and never quit en route to their third consecutive win, a 10-4 victory over the Rays before a crowd of 27,824 at Kauffman Stadium.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants reached the 100-games mark Friday night with an odd 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Odd, because it was almost completely devoid of drama. The purveyors of torture became wallflowers for one evening. The kings of Orange Fridays performed as if they had the Monday blues.
The Giants brought the tying run to the plate only once after Aaron Rowand led off San Francisco's half of the sixth inning with his fourth career pinch-hit homer, though all that required was one baserunner. Jeff Keppinger delivered a one-out, ninth-inning single off Brewers closer John Axford, who recovered by coaxing Pablo Sandoval's fly to shallow left field and Aubrey Huff's groundout. That silenced the paid crowd of 42,297, many of whom were standing and roaring in anticipation of excitement that never came.
