BOSTON, Ma. -- Boston got a much-needed lift from Josh Beckett Friday night en route to a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay at Fenway Park.

By losing, the Rays (83-67) fell back to four games behind the Red Sox (87-63) in the American League Wild Card race with time running out on the season.

Twelve games remain on the Rays' schedule, and two of them are against the Red Sox, which means no matter what happens during the final two games of the weekend series, the Rays will need help from other teams if they are going to overtake Boston and get into the playoffs.
