MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota -- One of the most incredible comeback wins in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 36-year history didn’t only erase a 17-point halftime deficit at Mall of America Field on Sunday, it potentially changed the outlook on the 2011 season.

No one in the Buccaneers’ camp would have been crying doom after an 0-2 start, but there’s no denying that 1-1 and a first-place tie in the ultra-competitive NFC South is far better, with a home date against Atlanta looming in one week. And surely nobody could argue with a straight face that a win such as Sunday’s won’t provide a serious emotional boost to the NFL’s youngest team.

BOSTON, Ma. -- Fifteen outs stared the Rays' bullpen in the face Sunday afternoon, and the bullpen didn't blink in leading the Rays to an 8-5 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

By winning, the Rays (85-67) took three games out of four from the Red Sox during the weekend series and moved to within two games of the American League Wild Card leaders.

The Rays won for the 11th time in their last 15 games since the Red Sox (87-65) held a nine-game lead on Sept. 2. The Rays have won eight of their last nine games from the Red Sox and claimed a 12-6 advantage during the season series.

DENVER, Co. -- With every passing day, and few remain this season, the Giants are making September a riveting month. Whether it will end up truly memorable is not something they can control.

Quite simply, it's win-and-hope time for the surging Giants. They have to keep winning and hope for help.

The Giants took care of the winning part Sunday with relative ease, thanks to a long-ball barrage that had historic overtones and summoned some hallowed Giants names. They unloaded six homers, four in an eight-run fourth, on the Rockies and pummeled them, 12-5. It was the Giants' season-best eighth straight win and gave them a four-game sweep of their series here.
