The Tampa Bay Juniors' Empire South and EJHL South teams traveled to Atlanta over the weekend, taking 2 of 4 games from the Jr. Knights.
On Saturday, October 29th, Dustin Disbro scored a power play goal just past the midway point of the third period, sending the Empire South Juniors on the way to a 5-4 win over Atlanta. Ben Winter scored a pair of first-period goals, while Jeff Meyer and Michael Hirschauer scored in the second period for Tampa Bay, which got 41 saves from Kyle Gertz. The Knights were led by Brandon Harley, who scored three times in the first period. Richard Privette scored in the second period for Atlanta. Zachary Voskamp had 14 saves. The Juniors were 3-for-8 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.
Also on Saturday, the EJHL Juniors scored 3 times in the second and twice more in the third, for a 6-3 comeback win over Atlanta. Daniel Clifford scored twice and Tobias Wilhelm, Matt Panzo, Pat Trizis and newcomer James Gabrione once each. Chris Dylewski made 35 saves. For Atlanta, Jordan Simmonds scored twice and Mikey Edwards once, with Terry Shafer making 32 saves. Tampa Bay was 2-for-6 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.
On Sunday, October 30th in Empire South action, it was Atlanta scoring four times in each of the first two periods, rolling to a 9-3 win. For the Knights, Richard Privetter had 2 goals and 3 assists, Brandon Harley had a goal and 2 assists, James Ugone had a goal and an assist, Wesley Davis added 3 assists and Patrick Wenzell made 24 saves. Goal scorers for Tampa Bay were Brendan Nicholson, Jeff Meyer and Daniel Fritz. Kyle Gertz was busy in net, making 40 saves. Both teams were 1-for-2 on the power play.
In Sunday's EJHL South game, Atlanta scored 4 times in the third, breaking open a tie game and winning 7-3. George Gerasimou tallied 3 goals and 1 assist for the Knights, Dave Castellion had a goal and 2 assists and both Scott Andler and Jordan Simmonds had a goal and an assist each. Derek Willms made 35 saves. Jason Horikawa scored twice for the Tampa Bay Juniors, Tommy Whiteley once and Braxton Schulz made 39 saves. The Juniors were 2-for-8 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill.
Coming up next for the Tampa Bay Juniors is a four-game home weekend with the Palm Beach Hawks on Saturday, November 5th and 9:30am EST Sunday, November 6th.
