U.S. National Sled Hockey Team Defeats Norway, 5-1,
at 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge

Landeros Notches Three Points in Victory


CALGARY, Alta. - Nikko Landeros (Berthoud, Colo.) scored two goals and added an assist, as the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team defeated Norway, 5-1, in its first game of the 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challege here tonight at the WinSport Canada Ice Complex.

"Overall, I'm really happy with how we played in our first game of the tournament," said Jeff Sauer, head coach of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. "We picked our intensity up in the third period and were able to get the win."

Dan McCoy (Cheswick, Pa.) opened the scoring for Team USA at 8:28 of the first period when he collected a pass from Landeros in the slot and fired a shot into the top corner of the net. Then, the U.S. extended its lead to 2-0 five minutes later with a goal from Taylor Lipsett (Richardson, Texas).

The two teams traded goals in the second period, with Landeros tallying his first goal of the game for the U.S. at 9:14. Norway responded with a tally 43 seconds later to make the score 3-1 heading into the final frame.

Greg Shaw (Park City, Utah) connected off of a pass from Tim Jones (Mt. Ephraim, N.J.) at 12:55 of the third period to give Team USA its second three goal lead of the game. Landeros rounded out the scoring less than two minutes later with a hard wrist shot to the top right corner of the net.

Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) made 12 saves in 57:24 of action in goal for the U.S., while Jen Yung Lee (San Antonio, Texas) made one save in the waning minutes of the third period.

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will continue tournament play today (Nov. 28) against Japan at 2 p.m. EST. A full schedule is below.
