Tampa, FL. -- Steven Stamkos celebrated his birthday in a big way.
The center, who turned 22 years old on Tuesday, scored his league-leading 35th goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning, which fell 3-1 to the Los Angeles Kings in front of a crowd of 16,489 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
The Lightning, which had won six of seven and which entered the contest with at least a point in seven straight games, lost for the first time in regulation since Jan. 15.

U.S. National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams Look to Defend Tournament Titles in Upcoming International Play
U17s to Compete in Vlad Dzurilla Tournament; U18s in Five Nations Tournament
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Men's National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams will look to defend tournament titles in international play this weekend. The Under-17 Team will travel to Piestany, Slovakia for the 2012 Under-18 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament, while the Under-18 Team will compete in the 2012 Five Nations Tournament in Pori, Finland.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team begins tournament play on Thursday, Feb. 9, against Switzerland at 7:30 a.m. EST. Team USA's complete schedule can be found below. The U.S. is the two-time defending champion of the event (2010-11).

A mall in Maryland was evacuated and shut down after crowds at a shoe store caused a problem over some new Nike sneakers. Police responded and moved all the customers outside.
