On this date in 1850, B.J. Lane patented the gas mask.


The latest on the stadium debate has the Province capping it's financial contribution at 30% of cost, to a maximum of $80 million. Also, the possibility of a "reasonable" loan for the stadium project has also been mentioned, as well as the facility will need to be "roof ready" before any money is dished out. The city, the Riders and private-sector partners will need to raise the rest of the money needed to build the stadium.

St. Petersburg, FL. -- After going 12-15 and setting a franchise-worst .222 team batting average for a month, the Rays had a very forgettable June.

July didn't start any better.

The Rays fell, 5-3, to the Tigers on Sunday at Tropicana Field, to drop three of the four games in their series with Detroit.

On this date in 1964, U.S. President Johnson signed the "Civil Rights Act of 1964" into law. The act made it illegal in the U.S. to discriminate against others because of their race.
