Tampa, FL. -- A hard-fought effort emphasized by a valiant comeback effort fell just short for the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

Benoit Pouliot scored a late game-tying goal in the third period and goaltender Anders Lindback turned away 22 of 24 shots, but in a closely-played 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Countdown to Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Three-time Olympian Julie Chu to Participate in Teleconference
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey will join the United States Olympic Committee in celebrating the one-year countdown to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, which will run from Feb. 6-23, 2014, during the "Road to Sochi" campaign. Three-time Olympian Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.) will represent USA Hockey in a media teleconference scheduled for 1 p.m. ET tomorrow (Feb. 6) to kick-off the weeklong celebration.
The teleconference will preview the outlook of Team USA for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and allow media to ask questions of top 2014 hopefuls on their preparation for the Games. For more information on the teleconference, click here.

1939 - Elvis Presley's father, Vernon, was released from prison after serving 8 months for altering a check.

1959 - The Elvis Presley LP "For LP Fans Only" was shipped. The release was a compilation of ten previously released songs.

1961 - Elvis Presley was called by to California to re-shoot the ending for the movie "Wild In The Country." The preview audiences did not like the original ending.

1990 - The television show "Elvis" began airing on ABC-TV. The show was cancelled on May 19th.

A brewery in Alaska is powering its operations with beer. The Alaskan Brewing Co. uses a $1.8 million furnace that can burn the grains left over after the brewing process. The beer power saves nearly half a million dollars a year.

1970 - John Lennon's "Instant Karma" with Yoko Ono's "Who Has Seen the Wind?" was released in the U.K.

1981 - Former Beatles, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison teamed up to record a musical tribute to John Lennon. The song "All Those Years Ago" was the result.

2005 - Paul McCartney headlined the Super Bowl XXXVIIII halftime show and performed four songs. The songs were "Drive My Car," "Live and Let Die," "Get Back" and "Hey Jude."

2007 - Yoko Ono's CD "Yes, I'm a Witch" was released.

Authorities in Tel Aviv, Israel, repainted a parking spot as a handicap zone while a car was parked there. Then, after painting was complete, they towed the car away for parking illegally because it didn't have a permit. The owner of the car received an apology from the city. Check out the video.

1921 - The New York Yankees issued a press release to announce the purchase of 10 acres of property in the west Bronx. The land was used for Yankee Stadium I.

1926 - The National Football League adopted a rule that made players ineligible for competition until their college class graduated.

1932 - Dog sled racing happened for the first time in Olympic competition.

1958 - Ted Williams signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox that was worth $135,000. The contract made him the highest paid player in major league history.

1970 - The NBA expanded to 18 teams for the 1970-71 season. The new teams added were Buffalo, Cleveland, Houston and Portland.

1986 - Peter McNab (New Jersey Devils) became the 42nd player to score 450 career goals.

1990 - Brett Hull (St. Louis Blues) and his father Bobby Hull, became the only father-son combination in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season.

2005 - The New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX. It was the 3rd win in four years for the Patriots.
