Wenatchee, WA. – Newcomer Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) scored a pair of second period goals to power the Wenatchee Wild to a 2-1 win over the Johnstown Tomahawks Friday night, before 2,815 fans at the Town Toyota Center.

Johnstown scored the first goal of the game for the third straight game in the team’s four-game set late in the first period, as Shane Bednard tapped home a power play goal, assisted by Brandon Reinholz and Mitch Hall at 16:57, giving the Tomahawks a 1-0 lead.

Ahlgren tied the game for the Wild 22 seconds into the second period with a blazing wrister from the left circle, the unassisted goal making it a 1-1 game. Ahlgren scored his second of the game, tapping home a crossing pass at the left post. The power play goal at 7:07, assisted by David Powlowski (Rochester, New York) and Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York), put Wenatchee on top for the first time in the series in regulation or overtime, 2-1.

The third period featured plenty of up and down action and hard hitting but no goals, as the Wild hung on for the 2-1 win.

Wenatchee outshot Johnstown 33-16. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) stopped 15 shots for the Wild, Jake Moore had 31 saves for the Tomahawks. Wenatchee was 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill. “Other than the stick penalties we took, I was pretty happy with our effort all night” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. “They’re (Johnstown) a pretty hard team to play against. They’re well coached. Overall I thought the effort was good and we created chances. You have to create chances against this team; they don’t give up much as far as outnumbered rushes. Your offense has to come from face offs and power plays.”

Wenatchee is now 13-11-2, Johnstown is 15-10-2.

The Wild remains home for 1 more game with Johnstown tomorrow night (December 7th - 7:05pm PST), before wrapping up the pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of games at Aberdeen next Friday and Saturday, December 13th and 14th, then a pair of games at Minot of Friday and Saturday, December 20th and 21st. Wenatchee then returns home for a pair of games against Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday, January 3rd and 4th. Individual and group game tickets for all home games are on sale now.
