In 2011 the Yamagishi family lost their cat during th Japan earthquake and tsunami. This spring a couple discovered a black short-haired cat sleeping in a forest outside a nearby city. They noticed the cat was friendly and wearing a collar, so they took it to a vet. There an employee noticed faded letters and numbers on the collar. A quick phone call later and the Yamagishis were reunited with Suika.

Frederick Coble and his girlfriend went into an Ann Arbor, Michigan, gas station while the clerk was in the store's cooler. When the clerk came back behind the counter, the couple were in the process of snatching packs of cigarettes. The couple said they were going to pay for the cigarettes, but at some point Coble hopped over the counter with a weapon in his hand. At the time, the clerk thought it was a gun or a knife, but it was later revealed to be a pair of pliers. While attempting to defend himself, the clerk flipped Coble, who was knocked unconscious when his head hit the floor. The girlfriend fled after grabbing some cash.
