Tyler Walsh Named Intern Assistant Coach

Walsh to Aid U.S. National Under-17 Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Tyler Walsh (East Lansing, Michigan) will serve as intern assistant coach for the U.S. National Under-17 Team, part of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, during the 2014-15 season, it was announced today.
Walsh, who spent 2013-14 as director of hockey operations at Canisius College, was responsible for the program's video coordination, travel management and assistance of the Griffins coaching staff. He also compiled scouting reports on opponents.
Prior to his time at Canisius, Walsh spent three seasons (2010-13) as a student assistant coach and video coordinator at the University of Maine. With the Black Bears, Walsh was responsible for scouting opposing teams, video and served as an assistant to the coaching staff.
In addition, Walsh served as video coordinator for USA Hockey at the 2012 16U and 17U Select Festival in Rochester, New York. He has also served as an on-ice instructor at summer camps held at the University of Maine and Michigan State University while working with Holt (Michigan) High School.
Walsh earned a bachelor's degree in business adminstration from Maine in 2013.
NOTES: Tyler is the eldest son of Shawn Walsh, former head coach at the University of Maine (1984-2001) ... Tyler's grandfather, Ron Mason, is a recent inductee into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame. Mason won 924 men's college hockey games over a 36-season head-coaching career at Lake Superior State University (1966-73), Bowling Green State University (1973-79) and Michigan State University (1979-2002) ... Tyler's younger brother, Travis Walsh, skated three seasons in the United States Hockey League (2009-12) and currently plays for Michigan State University.
ABOUT THE NTDP: In 1996, USA Hockey launched a new initiative called the National Team Development Program, based in Ann Arbor, Mich. Celebrating its 17th season of play in 2013-14, the goal of this full-time development program is to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. Its efforts focus not only on high-caliber participation on the ice, but creating well-rounded individuals off the ice.
