Tampa, FL. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced a detailed schedule for Fan Fest, presented by Florida Hospital, on Saturday, September 27 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Amalie Arena in preparation for the upcoming 2014-15 season on Saturday. Florida Hospital is giving away free t-shirts to the first 3,500 fans in attendance.

Corvallis, OR. -- The date was Sept. 16, 1960. Oregon State invaded Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to face Southern Cal, an 18-point favorite. With coach Tommy Prothro calling plays from the press box, future Heisman Trophy winner Terry Baker combined with fellow tailback Don Kasso to lead OSC to a 14-0 victory in which the Beavers had the ball at the USC 2-yard line when the final gun sounded. It was Oregon State's first win over the Trojans in L.A. since 1935.

A 13-year-old Texas girl has earned a spot on her middle school football team as a linebacker two years after coaches told her it would be impossible. Paige Smith showed up to camp and impressed the coaches. Smith said she told her teammates not to go easy on her and "hit me as hard as they can because I'm just going to do the same to them." Smith says she's determined to play high school football.

The first major league double header was played. It was between the Worcester and Providence teams. 

1965 - Willie Mays, at the age of 34, became the oldest man to hit 50 home runs in a single season. He had also set the record for the youngest to hit 50 ten years earlier. 

1965 - Satchel Paige (Kansas City Athletics), at the age of 59, pitched three shutout innings against the Boston Red Sox. 

1978 - Melissa Ludtke, a writer for "Sports Illustrated", filed a suit in U.S. District Court. The result was that Major League Baseball could not bar female writers from the locker room after the game. 

1993 - Charles Barkley and Nirvana were guests on "Saturday Night Live." 

1997 - NBC sportscaster Marv Albert pled guilty to assault and battery of a lover. He was fired from NBC within hours. 

2001 - Michael Jordan announced that he would return to the NBA as a player for the Washington Wizards. Jordan became the president of basketball operations for the team on January 19, 2000.
