The Tampa Bay Juniors were in action over the weekend at the Palm Beach Hawks and the Empire and Elite teams both put together weekend sweeps.
On Saturday in the Empire game, Tampa Bay won 4-1, scoring twice in each of the first two periods. Steven Noyes scored three goals and Jonathan Grodzki the other, while Michael Demiceli and Benoit Chin added two assists each. Sam Coleman had 42 saves for the Juniors, who went 2-for-5 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill.
Also on Saturday, the Elite team won 3-1. Jack Stang, Trey Stern and Josh Ovitt scored goals, Stern added an assist and Michael Krch made 29 saves. Tampa Bay went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.
On Sunday, the Empire team won again, topping Palm Beach 5-4 in a shootout. Benoit Chin scored twice, Mason Ledbetter had a goal and assist, Max Mullholland and Steven Noyes chipped in with two assists a piece and Jonathan Grodzki and Ledbetter scored in the shootout. Zac Gazzana made 33 saves, plus two more in the shootout. Tampa Bay went 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.
Also on Sunday, the Elite Juniors edged the Palm Beach Hawks 6-5 in overtime. Brandon Goudreau had 2 goals and an assist, Christopher Astrom had a goal and assist, with his goal winning the game at 3:38 of the extra session. Richard Foy and Josh Basso also scored goals, Connor Smith added 3 assists. Michael Krch made 25 saves for Tampa Bay, which went 1-for-2 on the power ply and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill.
Next up for the Juniors, is the USPHL's Southern Showcase in Ellenton. On Thursday, December 18th, the Elite team plays the Richmond Generals at 7:45pm EST. On Friday, December 19th, the Empire team plays East Coast at 11:00am EST, the Elite team plays East Coast at 1:00pm EST and the Empire team plays Hampton Roads at 7:00pm EST. On Saturday, December 20th, the Elite team plays Hampton Roads at 9:00am EST, while the Empire team plays Richmond at 1pm EST and Atlanta at 8:00pm EST. On Sunday, December 21st, the Elite team plays Atlanta at 2:30pm EST and the Empire team plays Atlanta at 3:00pm EST. All games will be webcast on Fasthockey.com.
