Burnaby, B.C. -- The Wenatchee Wild rolled from start to finish Thursday night, blanking the Coquitlam Express 6-0 in their BCHL preseason opener in a game played at the Burnaby Winter Club.
The Wild scored twice in each period. Gage Mackie and Kyle Stephan each scored in the opening period, in which Wenatchee out shot the Express 16-4.
In the second period, Bryan Yoon and Joe Drabin scored for the Wild, upping the lead to 4-0.
Then, in the third, Dan Nachbaur and August Von Ungern-Sternberg lit the lamp for Wenatchee, as the Wild cruised to the win.
Chase Perry was solid in goal, making 20 saves, as Wenatchee out shot Coquitlam 34-20 on the night.
"In spurts, we played well," said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. "I thought we played fast and made some plays. When they had their opportunities to take it to us, Chase Perry was very good."
15 Division One college coaches were on hand to watch the action, as the Wild improved to 1-0. The Express slipped to 0-4.
Next up for Wenatchee, is a game in Chilliwack Friday night against the Chiefs. Faceoff is set for 7:00pm PDT, with the game available on a pay-per-view basis on Fasthockey.com. The Wild will close out preseason play on Saturday night at Surrey against the Eagles. The regular season opening weekend is next Friday and Saturday, September 11th and 12th, as Wenatchee travels to Prince George to take on the Spruce Kings, with face off both nights set for 7:00pm PST.
