Penticton, BC. – The Penticton
Vees rode a 3-goal second period to victory Wednesday night, beating the
Wenatchee Wild 6-1, in front of 2,575 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The Vees got the opening goal 4:12 into the contest off the
stick of Chris Gerrie, assisted by Nick Jones and Luke Voltin, putting
Penticton on top, 1-0. Halfway through the period, the Wild would tie it up. Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) banged home a
loose puck in a goal mouth scramble, assisted by Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) and Bryan
Yoon (Parker, CO). The power play goal, scored at the 10:00 mark, tied the
game 1-1 after one.
The Vees would take over in the second. Scott Conway scored from
Seamus Donohue and Anthony Brodeur at 4:10, putting Penticton on top, 2-1.
Then, Owen Sillinger scored from Dixon Bowen and Easton Brodzinski at 8:35,
putting the Vees on top, 3-1. Penticton would hang one more in the middle
period, as Sillinger would score from Bowen at 11:26, for a 4-1 Vees lead
through two.
In the third, Conway scored again, assisted by Jones and Dante
Fabbro on the power play at 6:50, putting Penticton ahead 5-1. The Vees would
round out the scoring with a Darius Davidson goal, assisted by Conway and Griffin
Mendel at 14:54, giving Penticton the 6-1 win.
The Vees outshot Wenatchee 38-32 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 32 saves
for the Wild, while Brodeur made 31 saves for Penticton. Wenatchee went 1-for-2
on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill. “Tonight, Penticton was
better than us at everything.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager
Bliss Littler. “From coaching to getting to loose pucks to offence to defense to
want to to will to. We have a lot of work to do in the next 10 days before they
come into our building.”
With the win, the Vees move to 35-5-0-1 on the season; the Wild
is now 23-12-2-3. Wenatchee returns home to host the Nanaimo Clippers on
Friday, January 15th and Merritt Centennials on Saturday, January 16th,
7:05pm both nights at the Town Toyota Center.
