Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee
Wolves swept the West Sound Warriors over the weekend, winning 8-1 in Bremerton
on Friday, February 5th, then 16-1 in Wenatchee on Sunday, February
7th. The two victories clinched the NPHL regular season title for
the Wolves.
On Friday in Bremerton, the Wolves outshot the Warriors 41-18,
breaking open a 4-1 game with four third period goals on their way to the 8-1
win. Will Connors (Richland,
Washington) paced the offense with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Richie Stickle (Healy, AK) added a pair
of goals. Bronson Moore (Kennewick,
WA) made 17 saves for Wenatchee, who went 2-for-2 on the power play and 5-of-5
on the penalty kill.
On Sunday in Wenatchee, the Wolves skated to a 16-1 win over West
Sound. Hunter Alden (Walla Walla,
WA) and Otto Chao (Salt Lake City,
UT) scored three goals apiece, Tom
Ignatovich (Seattle, WA) had 2 goals and an assist, Thomas Hendry (Salt Lake City, UT) netted a pair of goals, Connors
chipped in a goal and 3 assists and Johnny
Schacher (Bakersfield, CA) dealt out five assists. Wenatchee, who outshot
West Sound 68 to 9 on the day, went 2-for-3 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the
penalty kill.
“We played hard all weekend and continue to focus on improving
every day.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “We are headed into
an off weekend and want to have really high levels of compete and intensity in
practice the next two weeks to make sure we are playing our best hockey headed
into the stretch run.”
With the two wins, the Wolves improve to 32-1-0-0, 13 points
ahead of second-place Bellingham, clinching the Norpac’s regular season crown
in the process. Wenatchee has this coming weekend off. Their next action is a
home-and-home series with the Bellingham Blazers, with games Saturday, February
20th in Bellingham and Sunday, February 21st in
Wenatchee.
