Western Hockey League roundup for Sunday, October 28th, 2018
Regina Pats 7, Swift Current Broncos 1
The Pats won for just the 4th time in 15 games with the thumping of the Broncos. Austin Pratt and Sergei Alkhimov scored twice each for Regina, Nick Henry, Scott Mahovlich and Riley Krane one each. Aaron Hyman added 3 assists and Max Paddock made 21 saves. Joona Kiviniemi scored the lone goal for Swift Current, Joel Hofer made 33 saves. Attendance at the Brandt Centre in Regina was 4,804.
Saskatoon Blades 5, Calgary Hitmen 3
A Kristian Roykas Mathinsen goal at 12:43 stood as the game-winner, as Saskatoon won at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Kirby Dach scored twice, including an empty netter, while Eric Florchuk and Josh Patterson added singles. Hitmen goals were scored by Jake Kryski, Carson Focht and Zach Huber. Nolan Maier had 38 saves for the B;ades, Jack McNaughton 36 for Calgary.
Edmonton Oil Kings 6, Lethbridge Hurricanes 3
A 3 goal second period was the difference in Edmonton's win. Quinn Benjafield and Jake Neighbours tallied a pair apiece for Edmonton, David Kope one and Trey Fix-Wolansky had a four-point night, with a goal and 3 assists. Boston Bilous made 21 saves. For the Hurricanes, goals were scored by Taylor Ross, Jake Elmer and Dylan Cozens. Carl Tetachuk had 24 saves. 5,754 attended the contest at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Red Deer Rebels 8, Kootenay ICE 5
Kootenay scored three times on the power play but it wasn't enough, as Red Deer won by 3. Reese Johnson scored 3 for the Rebels. Alexander Alexeyev contributed a goal and 2 assists, Blake Sydlowski, Josh Tarzwell and Aeshdeep Bains 1 goal each, Brandon Hagel 3 assists and Austin Schellenberg 2 helpers. Dallas Hines, Cameron Hausinger, Jonathan Smart, Martin Bodak and Brad Ginnell scored once each for the ICE, with Ginnell adding 2 helpers. Ethan Anders made 36 saves for the Rebels, Duncan McGovern 18 for Kootenay. Attendance at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook was 2,094.
Kamloops Blazers 5, Portland Winterhawks 2
Kamloops even their record at 6-6-0-1 win the win before 2,871 at Portland's Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Five different players, Montana Onyebuchi, Josh Pillar, Brodi Stuart, Orrin Centazzo and Kobe Mohar scored goals for the Blazers, Cody Glass and Ryan Hughes had a goal and assist each for Portland. Dylan Garand's 32 saves helped Kamloops to their 4th straight win. Shane Farkas made 29 saves for the Winterhawks.
Vancouver Giants 3, Brandon Wheat Kings 2 (SO)
Two Vancouver power goals, plus a third round shootout marker helped the Giants win before 3,378 at the Langley Events Centre. Milos Roman and Brayden Watts scored in regulation and Watts in the shootout for Vancouver. For Brandon, Connor Gutenberg and Caiden Daley scored the goals. Trent Miner made 37 saves for the Giants, Jiri Patera 27 for the Wheat Kings.
