Western Hockey League Roundup for Friday, October 26th, 2018
Everett Silvertips 2, Moose Jaw Warriors 1 (OT)
Wyatte Wylie scored 21 seconds into the extra session to push the Tips to the win at Moose Jaw. Tristan Langan scored late in the first for the Warriors, who got 19 saves from Brodan Salmond. Sahvan Khaira scored late in the second for Everett, Dustin Wolf stopped 21 of 22 shots. Attendance in Moose Jaw was 3,117.
Medicine Hat Tigers 8, Regina Pats 5
James Hamblin and Ryan Chyzowski scored twice each for the Tigers, while Logan Christensen, Tyler Preziuso, Josh Williams and Jaxson Steele added singles on the road, sending Regina to their 10th loss in 13 games to start the season, in front of 4,543 at the Brandt Centre. Aaron Hyman, Jake Leschyshyn, Nick Henry, Duncan Pierce and Liam Schioler tallied markers for the Pats. Jordan Hollett had 31 saves for Medicine Hat, Max Paddock and Dean McNabb combined to make 26 saves for Regina. 4 of the Tigers goals came on the power play.
Red Deer Rebels 4, Saskatoon Blades 3 (OT)
Alex Morozoff's goal 1:21 into the extra session propelled the Rebels to the home win in front of 4,073 at the Enmax Centrium. Brandon Hagel scored twice and Jeff de Wit also lit the lamp for Red Deer, Ethan Anders made 23 saves. The Blades, who scored twice in the third to force the extra session, had goals from Max Gerlach, Brandon Schludhaus and Kirby Dach, plus 44 stops from Nolan Maier.
Lethbridge Hurricanes 7, Calgary Hitmen 6
5,251 at the Scotiabank Saddledome got their money's worth, goal-wise. The two teams combined for 4 goals in the first period, 5 in the second and four more in the third. Jadon Joseph scored twice for the Canes, with singles coming from Calen Addison, Jordy Bellerive, Zachary Cox and Keltie Jeri-Leon, while Logan Barlage added a goal and two assists. Igor Merezhko chipped in with 3 assists. Reece Klassen made 26 saves. For the Hitmen, Mark Kastelic, Ryder Korczak and Kaden Elder all scored two goals each, with Carl Stankowski and Jack McNaughton combined to make 23 saves. Cox's goal at 13:26 of the third was the game-winner for Lethbridge.
Edmonton Oil Kings 7, Kootenay ICE 2
A four-goal second period propelled Edmonton to the win, in front of 2,208 at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook. The Oil Kings, who went 2 for 4 on the power play, were led by Vladimir Alistrov, Quinn Benjafield, Conner McDonald and Ty Gerla, who all had a goal and assist each. Liam Keeler, Scott Atkinson andMatthew Robertson added singles, with Dylan Miskiw stopped 39 of 41 shots faced. Fot the ICE, Cameron Hausinger and Cole Muir were the goal scorers, Duncan McGovern and Jesse Makaj teamed up for 30 saves. Edmonton scored twice on the power play in four chances.
Spokane Chiefs 4, Portland Winterhawks 1
4,407 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena looked on, as Carter Chorney, Eli Zummack, Adam Beckman and Nolan Reid scored to push the Chiefs past Portland. Joachim Blichfeld scored for Portland. In net, Bailey Brkin made 36 saves for Spokane, Dante Giannuzzi 18 for Portland.
Kamloops Blazers 7, Seattle Thunderbirds 2
Kamloops skated to their second straight win, with 3 goals in both the second and third periods. Zane Franklin led the Blazers with the hat trick, Nolan Kneen scored twice, Connor Zary had a goal and 3 assists and Jermaine Loewen added a goal and assist. Seattle's goals were scored by Simon Kubicek and Noah Philip. Dylan Ferguson stopped 31 of 33 shots faced for Kamloops, with Liam Hughes and Cole Schwebius combining for 29 saves for the TBirds. Both of Seattle's goals were scored on the power play. Attendance at the Showare Center in Kent was 4,069.
