Raiders outlast Ams for 12th straight win

Prince Albert, SK - Three straight goals in the third, hi-lighted by an empty-netter by the goaltender, brought the Prince Albert Raiders from behind on home ice and to their 12th straight victory, 3-1 over a stubborn Tri-City Americans squad, before an SRO crowd of 2,829 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The game, although scoreless through 40 minutes, featured plenty of hard hitting, fast skating action, with stellar goal tending at both ends. Moving into the third, the offences would finally awaken, with Tri-City's Krystof Hrabik firing a laser past the goaltender for his sixth of the year at 1:11. The goal, assisted by Parker AuCoin, put the Americans on top, 1-0. The lead held for 4 1/2 minutes, until Prince Albert bagged two quick ones to grab the lead for good. Sergei Sapego scored a power play goal from former American Brett Leason at 5:44 to tie the game 1-1, then Brayden Pachal scored from Kody McDonald and Noah Gregor at 7:06 to make it a 2-1 Raider advantage. Tri-City battled hard from there but wasn't able to get the equalizer, allowing Raider goaltender Ian Scott, standing behind and to the left of his goal, to aim for and then deposit the puck into the empty goal at the other end for his first career WHL goal at 19:44, giving Prince Albert their final winning margin of 3-1, securing their 12th consecutive victory and 19th and 20 starts this season. The Americans slip to 12-7-0-0.

The Raiders held a 30-24 shots advantage on the night. Scott made 23 saves for Prince Albert, Beck Warm 27 for the Americans. The Raiders were 1-for-2 on the power play, Tri-City was 0-for-5.

The Americans wrap up their lengthy 11 game road swing with a 5:00 pm contest Saturday in Saskatoon. Prince Albert plays at 5:30 pm in Brandon.
