Western Hockey League Roundup for Saturday, November 10th, 2018













Red Deer Rebels 4, Moose Jaw Warriors 3 (SO)

Reese Johnson's goal in round four of the shootout proved to be the winner, in front of 3,307 at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw. Oleg Zaytsev also scored in the shootout for Red Deer, adding a regulation goal scored by Jeff de Wit and a pair of power play goals scored by Chris Douglas. Netminder Ethan Anders made 38 saves for the Rebels, who trail first place Edmonton by one point in the Central Division standings. For Moose Jaw, Ryan Peckford scored twice, Daniil Stepanov once and Peckford added a shootout goal. Brodan Salmond made 27 saves.

Regina Pats 2, Swift Current Broncos 0

Max Paddock had his second strong outing in as many nights, stopping all 20 Swift Current shots fired his way, getting offensive support in the form of goals by Jake Leschyshyn and Scott Mahovlich, as the Pats won at the Brandt Centre before 5,250. Isaac Poulter was solid in net for the Broncos, making 22 saves.

Saskatoon Blades 2, Kootenay ICE 1

Seth Bafaro's second goal of the season for Saskatoon, scored at 4:29 of the second period was the difference, before 2,349 at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook. Gary Haden scored a power play goal in the first for the Blades and Kootenay's Cole Muir scored an unasisted goal late in the opening period for the ICE. Nolan Maier made 31 saves for Saskatoon, Jesse Makaj 24 for Kootenay.

Edmonton Oil Kings 4, Medicine Hat Tigers 3 (OT)

Brett Kemp's second goal of the game, scored at 1:11 of overtime, powered Edmonton to the win before 3,176 at Canalta Centre in Medicine Hat. Kemp scored a first period power play goal for the Oil Kings, Vince Loschiavo and Andrei Pavlenko scored with the man advantage as well. Dylan Myskiw made 25 saves for Edmonton. Tigers goal were scored by Ryan Jevne, Trevor Longo and Hayden Ostir. Mads Sogaard made 41 saves.

Portland Winterhawks 3, Kelowna Rockets 0

Portland's Shane Farkas made 26 saves and the Winterhawks offense came from Joachim Blichfeld with a goal and 2 assists, Cody Glass with a goal and assist and Reece Newkirk with a goal. James Porter held Kelowna in the game by making 47 saves. 7,747 attended the contest played at Portland's Moda Center.

Everett Silvertips 5, Seattle Thunderbirds 1

Everett sprinted out to a three-goal lead in the opening twenty minutes and were never headed. Connor Dewar scored twice for the U.S. Division leading Tips, Wyatte Wylie and Bryce Kindopp each had a goal and assist, Jalen Price scored a goal, Riley Sutter chipped in with two assists and Dustin Wolf made 25 saves. Seattle's goal came from Reece Harsch, Liam Hughes made 36 saves.
Everett has won both meetings between the two clubs this season and now lead Portland by 3 points in the U.S. Division standings.

Vancouver Giants 2, Prince George Cougars 1

A two-goal second period pushed the Giants 10 games over .500 with the win over their B.C. Division rivals before 3,566 at the Langley Events Centre. Prince George led after one on a goal by Connor Bowie, but second period markers by Vancouver's Tyler Ho and Cyle McNabb pushed the Giants to the win, their third straight. Trent Miner made 32 saves for Vancouver, Taylor Gauthier 27 saves for Prince George.

Spokane Chiefs 7, Victoria Royals 2

The Chiefs broke open a tie game in the latter stages of the first period and rolled to the road win in front of 6,525 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria. Filip Kral had a goal and 2 assists for Spokane, Riley Woods and Adam Beckman and goal and assist each, with Cordel Larson, Luke Toporowski, Eli Zummack and Carter Chorney scoring singles. Victoria's goal scorers were Phillip Schultz and Kaid Oliver. Dawson Weatherill made 30 saves for the Chiefs, who moved past Tri-City and into third place in the U.S. Division. Griffen Outhouse made 22 saves for the Royals, who lost for the sixth time in the past 10 games.
