Giants sweep Tri-City

Langley, B.C. -- Back in their new home, after a successful visit to their old one Saturday, The Vancouver Giants knocked off the Tri-City Americans 4-2 Sunday afternoon, before 2,978 at the Langley Events Centre.

Blake Stevenson would give the Americans a 1-0 lead after one with a short handed goal, his 5th red light special of the season, assisted by Riley Sawchuk at 12:15. Tri-City played one of their strongest first periods in quite awhile in grabbing that advantage after 20 minutes.

In the second Jared Dmytriw brought the Giants even with an assist from Owen Hardy at 5:26. But just 138 seconds later, the Americans would take back the lead, as Isaac Johnson scored his 11th of the season, assisted by Samuel Stewart and Connor Bouchard at 7:44, putting Tri-City on top 2-1 after 40 minutes.

In the third though, Vancouver would take control of the game, scoring three times to come from behind and win the game. Aidan Barfoot scored from Alex Kannok and Ty Ettinger at 7:26, David Koch nailed a power play goal at 13:49 from Milos Roman and Bowen Byram for what would count as the game-winner, then Roman would add insurance at 15:16 from Justin Sourdif and Brayden Watts, signing off on the 4-2 Giants win. Vancouver outshot the Americans 34-28, after being outshot 16-10 in the first. Trent Miner made 26 saves for the Giants and Beck Warm made 30 saves for Tri-City. Both teams scored one power play goal, Vancouver in 3 chances and the Americans in 5 tries.

With the win, the Giants are now 20-6-2-0, 1st place in the B.C. Division, 16 points ahead of both Victoria and Kelowna. The Americans fall to 14-11-1-0 for 29 points, 3 points behind 3rd place Portland in the U.S. Division.

Coming up: Tri-City travels to Kelowna for a 7:05 pm game this Wednesday, December 5th. Craig West has the call on Newstalk 870 KFLD and newstalk870.am beginning at 6;45 pm Wednesday night. Vancouver hosts Victoria at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver on Saturday, December 8th.
