Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, September 20th, 2019













Winnipeg Ice 3, Brandon Wheat Kings 2

Second period goals by Connor McClennon and Issac Johnson, plus an early third period goal by Michal Teply powered Winnipeg to the road win before 4,959 at Brandon's Westoba Place. Vincent Iorio and Zach Wytinck scored for the Wheat Kings. Dean McNabb made 24 saves for the Ice, Jiri Patera 42 for Brandon.

Medicine Hat Tigers 4, Lethbridge Hurricanes 3 (SO)

D-Jay Jerome and Dino Kambeitz staked Lethbridge to a 2-0 lead, then Jacob Boucher made it a 3-1 lead early in the third with a short handed goal, but a second period power play by Cole Sillinger, combined with third period goals by Bryan Lockner and Ryan Chyzowski forced overtime. The Tigers outscored the Hurricanes 3-2 in the shootout for the season opening win, in front of 5,125 at the Enmax Centre. Mads Sogaard made 34 saves for Medicine Hat, Carl Tetachuk 48 for the Hurricanes.

Saskatoon Blades 3, Prince Albert Raiders 2 (OT)

Ryan Hughes scored 17 seconds in overtime to give the Blades the win before 3,108 at the Art Hauser Centre. Tristen Robins and Scott Walford added power play goals for the Blades, who got an 18 save performance in net by Nolan Maier. Boston Bilous made 15 saves for the Raiders, whose goals were scored by Allaksel Protas and Landon Kosler.

Regina Pats 3, Moose Jaw Warriors 2

Austin Pratt and Ty Kolle scored first period goals, then Kolle added the game-winner just past the midway point of the third, giving Regina the win in front of 4,658 at the Brandt Centre. Max Paddock had 20 saves for the Pats. For Moose Jaw, Keenan Taphorn and Carson Denomie scored power play goals, Bailey Brkin had 27 saves.

Spokane Chiefs 4, Kamloops Blazers 3

A 2 goal second period was the difference, as the Chiefs won before 5,654 at the Sandman Centre. Jake McGrew scored twice for Spokane, Connor Gabruch and Luke Toporowski one each, Lukas Parik had 31 saves. For the Blazers, Logan Stankoven, Sean Strange and Connor Zary scored goals, Dylan Garand made 33 saves.

Vancouver Giants 5, Prince George Cougars 3

Vancouver scored twice in the third to win in front of 2,857 at the CN Centre. Justin Sourdif and Jackson Shepard scored in the third, Lukas Svejkovsky in the second, Tristen Nielsen and Seth Bafaro in the first. Cougar goal scorers were Cole Moberg with one and Tyson Upper with two. Trent Miner made 20 saves for Vancouver, Taylor Gauthier 24 for Prince George.

Tri-City Americans 4, Everett Silvertips 2

Nikita Krivokrasov scored twice for Tri-City, Samuel Huo and Sasha Mutala once each for the Ams, with Beck Warm making 28 saves, in front of 5,318 at Angel of the Winds Arena. Jackson Berezowski and Bryce Kindopp scored for Everett, Dustin Wolff made 20 saves for the 'Tips.
