Western Hockey League roundup for Saturday, September 28th, 2019
Kamloops Blazers 6, Vancouver Giants 2
4 goals in the third period won it for the Blazers. Orrin Centazzo led the way for the victors with 2 goals and 2 assists. Josh Pillar, Logan Stankoven, Zane Franklin and Montana Onyebuchi scored the other goals for Kamloops, Dylan Garand chipped in on the win with 33 saves. Vancouver's goal scorers were Tristen Nielsen and Milos Roman, Trent Miner made 20 saves. Attendance at Sandman Centre was 3,461.
Kelowna Rockets 5, Everett Silvertips 1
Kelowna scored 3 times in the second to grab the home ice win before 5,011 at Prospera Place. Jake Lee, Kyle Topping, Trevor Wong, Liam Kindree and Sean Comrie all scored their first goals of the season for the Rockets, Roman Basran had 26 saves. Jackson Berezowski scored the lone Everett goal, with Dustin Wolf and Keegan Karki combining for 28 saves.
Medicine Hat Tigers 10, Swift Current Broncos 1
The Tigers rolled to the win on the strength of a 6 goal second period, before 3,129 at Canalta Centre. James Hamblin and Bryan Lockner scored twice each for Medicine Hat, Cole Sillinger, Nick McCarry, Cole Clayton, Tyler Preziuso, Brett Kemp and Jonathan Brinkman scored the other Tiger goals. Garin Bjorklund made 32 saves. For Swift Current, Tyler Smithies scored, Isaac Poulter and Jordan Fairlie teamed up to make 31 saves.
Moose Jaw Warriors 3, Brandon Wheat Kings 2
Keen Taphorn scored just shy of the midway point of the third to tie the game for Moose Jaw, then Ryder Korczak scored with just 44 seconds to play to win it for the Warriors, who got a first period goal from Jadon Joseph and 31 saves from Bailey Brkin. For Brandon, Luca Burzan and Ben McCartney scored goals, Ethan Kruger made 28 saves. 3,073 looked on at Mosaic Place.
Prince Albert Raiders 3, Winnipeg ICE 2
Jeremy Masella scored at 2:02 of overtime, to give PA the win, before 2,586 at the Art Hauser Centre. Other Raiders goals came from Allaksel Protas and Ilya Usau, with Boston Bilous making 16 saves. For Winnipeg, goals were scored by Michael Milne and Austin Schellenberg, Gage Alexander made 21 saves.
Calgary Hitmen 5, Red Deer Rebels 1
Riley Stotts rang up a natural hat trick, Egor Zamula and Layne Toder chipped in with singles and Jack McNaughton had 15 saves to lead Calgary to the win, before 3,947 at Westerner Park Centrium. Dawson Barteaux scored the lone Red Deer goal, Byron Fancy made 28 saves.
Tri-City Americans 3, Spokane Chiefs 0
Beck Warm stopped all 38 shots he saw and the Americans got goals from Dom Schmiemann, Samuel Huo and Paycen Bjorklund, to beat the Chiefs in front of 8,122 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Lukas Parik made 20 saves for Spokane.
Victoria Royals 3, Prince George Cougars 2
Gary Haden scored in the 4th round of the shootout, to boost Victoria to the win, before 3,899 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena. Carson Miller scored late in regulation and in the 1st round of the shootout and Keanu Derungs scored in regulation as well for the Royals, with Shane Farkas making 25 saves. For Prince George, Ethan Browne scored both a regulation and shootout goal, Ryan Schoettler scored with 17 seconds left in the 3rd. Taylor Gauthier had 31 saves for the Cougars.
