Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, October 11th, 2019













Saskatoon Blades 2, Brandon Wheat Kings 1

Chase Wouters scored a shorthanded goal at 6:01 of the 1st period and that held up as the winner as the snuck by Brandon, in front of 3,011 at Westoba Place. Eric Florchuk scored just past the midway point of the first for Saskatoon's other goal and Nolan Maier made 36 saves. For Brandon, Cole Reinhardt scored early in the 1st and Ethan Kruger made 31 saves.

Vancouver Giants 4, Moose Jaw Warriors 1

Vancouver came from one down to win. Tristen Nielsen scored twice for the Giants, Justin Sourdif and Lukas Svejkovsky scored the other goals, David Tendeck made 24 saves. For Moose Jaw, Owen Hardy scored, Bailey Brkin made 27 saves. Attendance at Mosaic Place was 3,017.

Prince Albert Raiders 4, Lethbridge Hurricanes 2

Spencer Moe's second goal of the game at 15:01 on the 3rd stood up as the winner for the Raiders, before 2,502 at Art Hauser Centre. Zack Hayes scored in the 1st for Prince Albert, who also got an insurance goal fromIlya Usau into an empty net with 18 seconds left. Boston Bilous was strong in net, making 32 saves. For Lethbridge, Ty Nash and Koletrane Wislon scored goals, Bryan Thompson made 21 saves.

Portland Winterhawks 5, Red Deer Rebels 0

Joel Hofer made 16 saves for the shutout at Red Deer, with 4,006 looking on at Westerner Park Centrium. Winterhawks goal scorers were Seth Jarvis on the power play, Simon Knak, Johnny Ludvig on the power play, Clay Hanus and Jake Gricius. For the Rebels, Ethan Anders and Byron Fancy combined to make 36 saves.

Medicine Hat Tigers 5, Winnipeg ICE 2

A pair of goals in the 3rd opened up a one goal game and gave the Tigers their 6th win in 9 starts, pulling them into a 1st place tie with Edmonton in the Central Division. Medicine Hat goals were scored by Elijah Brown short handed, Tyler Prezluso, Ryan Chyzowski, Cole Sillinger and Prezluso again into an empty net. Winnipeg scorers were Jakin Smallwood and Connor McClennon. In net, Garin Bjorklund made 29 saves for the Tigers, Jesse Makaj had 29 saves for the ICE. Attendance at unannounced at Canalta Centre.

Prince George Cougars 3, Spokane Chiefs 1

After an ice-cold start, Prince George won their second straight game, with a big road win in Spokane. Cougars goals were scored by Josh Maser, Connor Bowie and Mitchell Kohner, Taylor Gauthier backstopped win with 44 saves. For Spokane, Bobby Russell scored, Campbell Arnold made 21. 3,704 attended the contest at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

Tri-City Americans 4, Victoria Royals 3 (OT)

The Americans won as Kyle Olson scored his second goal of the night at 4:20 of overtime, 24 seconds after exiting the penalty box. Tom Cadieux and Samuel Huo also scored for the Americans, Beck Warm made 27 saves. For Victoria, River Fahey, Tarun Fizer and Matthew Smith scored goals, Shane Farkas made 26 saves. 3,075 looked on at Toyota Center.

Kamloops Blazers 3, Everett Silvertips 1

Inaki Baragano, QuinnSchmiemann and Connor Zary into an empty net scored for Kamloops, Dylan Garand made 33 saves to lead the Blazers to the road win before 3,571 at Angel of The Winds Arena.
Brendan Lee scored the lone Everett goal, Dustin Wolf had 36 stops.

Kelowna Rockets 8, Seattle Thunderbirds 3

Kelowna blew Seattle away with 4 goals in each the 2nd and 3rd periods to win on the road, in front of 3,231 at Accesso ShoWare Center. Nolan Foote scored twice for the Rockets, Pavel Novak had a goal and 2 assists, Dillon Hamaliuk and Michael Farren a goal and assist each, Kaedan Korczak, Mark Liwiski and Alex Swetikoff a goal each, Kyle Topping had 4 assists. Roman Basran made 28 saves for Kelowna. For the Thunderbirds, Simon Kubicek, Keltie Jeri-Leon and Matthew Wedman scored goals, Roddy Ross and Blake Lyda combined for 31 saves.
