Western Hockey League roundup for Saturday, October 12th, 2019













Edmonton Oil Kings 6, Calgary Hitmen 4

A  4-goal 2nd period spelled doom for Calgary, as Edmonton skated to win in front of 4,740 at Rogers Place. Carter Souch notched a hat trick for the Oil Kings, Riley Sawchuk, Ethan McIndoe and Josh Williams also scored, Todd Scott had 19 saves. For the Hitmen, Egor Zamula, Mark Kastelic, Carson Focht and Sean Tschigerl scored the goals, Jack McNaughton made 26 saves.

Prince Albert Raiders 8, Moose Jaw Warriors 4

3 goals in both the 1st and 3rd periods each propelled the Raiders to victory, in front of 2,590 at Art Hauser Centre. For Prince Albert, Ilya Usau had 2 goals and 2 assists, Aliaksei Protas 2 goals, 1 assist, Cole Fonstad a goal and 2 assist, Brayden Watts a goal and an assist, Daniil Stepanov a goal, Nolan Allan a goal, Spencer Moe 3 asists and Boston Bilous 11 saves. For the Warriors, Brayden Tracy tallied a goal and 3 assists, Jaden Joseph and Ryder Korczak each a goal and assist, Owen Hardy 1 goal. Bailey Brkin 25 saves.

Saskatoon Blades 2, Lethbridge Hurricanes 1

For the third time in four days, the Saskatoon Blades won a 2-1 game. Riley McKay scored in the latter stages of the 2nd and Nolan Kneen early in the 3rd for the Blades, with goaltender Koen MacInnes making 26 saves. Dylan Cozens scored at 12:59 of the 3rd for Lethbridge, Carl Tetachuk made 28 saves. 3,810 watched at SaskTel Center.

Vancouver Giants 4, Regina Pats 2

Milos Roman scored twice, Zack Ostapchuk and Jackson Shepard added singles and David Tendeck chipped in 34 saves for Vancouver, before 3,938 at Brandt Centre. Cole Dubinsky and Ryker Evans scored for the Pats, now 1-8 on the season. Danton Belluk made 25 saves.

Winnipeg ICE 6, Swift Current Broncos 5 (SO)

Winnipeg came from 5-1 down, scoring 3 times in the 2nd and twice more in the 3rd, then prevailing 1-0 in the shootout to win before 2,043 at Innovation Credit Union I-Plex. After Winnipeg's Isaac Johnson scored 46 seconds into the game, the Broncos ripped off 5 straight 1st period goals, with Ethan Regnier, Ben King, Aiden Bulych, Alex Moar and Joona Kiviniemi lighting the lamp. In the 2nd, ICE goals by Jakin Smallwood and Owen Pederson closed the gap, then in the 3rd, Pederson and Johnson scored again to tie the game and force overtime. No one scored in the extra session, so the game went to the deciding shootout to see which team would get the extra standings point. Connor McClennon scored in the opening round for Winnipeg, but the Broncos were blanked in three tries, giving the ICE the win. In goal, Jesse Makaj and Gage Alexander combined to make 27 saves for the ICE, Isaac Poulter made 52 saves for Swift Current.

Medicine Hat Tigers 9, Red Deer Rebels 1

3 goals in each period helped the Tigers blow away the Rebels, before 2,912 at Canalta Centre. Daniel Baker, Caleb Wilms and Cole Sillinger each had 2 goals and 1 assist, James Hamblin had a goal and 2 assists, Nick McCarry and Ryan Chyzowski a goal and assist each, plus the trio of Brett Kemp, Tyler Preziuso and Cole Clayton had 2 assists each. Mads Soogaard made 19 saves. For Red Deer, Josh Tarzwell scored, Ethan Anders and Byron Fancy combined for 31 saves.

Everett Silvertips 1, Seattle Thunderbirds 0 (OT)

In a defensive duel, Everett's Gage Concalves scored at 2:21 of overtime to win it for the Tips. The goaltending was strong, with Everett's Dustin Wolf making 35 saves. Roddy Ross made 24 saves for Seattle. Attendance was 8,256 at Angel of The Winds Arena.

Kamloops Blazers 5, Kelowna Rockets 2

5,428 at Prospera Place saw the visiting Blazers come away with the win. Max Martin scored twice for Kamloops, Connor Zary, Orrin Centazzo and Martin Lang once each. Dylan Garand made 26 saves. For Kelowna, Jake Poole and Liam Kindree scored goals, Roman Basran made 42 saves.

Spokane Chiefs 6, Victoria Royals 1

Spokane broke open a tied game with 5 straight goals, before 7,047 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Filip Kral, Brandon Reller, Adam Beckman, Reed Jacobson, Cordel Larsona nd Bobby Russell scored for the Chiefs, Campbell Arnold made 12 saves. For Victoria, Sean Gulka scored, Shane Farkas made 30 saves.

Tri-City Americans 4, Prince George Cougars 2

The Ams snapped Prince George's modest two-game win streak, in front of 3,095 at Toyota Center. For Tri-City, Krystof Hrabik, Jayden Platz, Sasha Mutala and Connor Bouchard scored goals, Talyn Boyko, making his first start of the season, made 31 saves. For the Cougars, Filip Koffer and Josh Maser scored goals, Taylor Gauthier made 28 saves.
