Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, October 18th, 2019













Calgary Hitmen 7, Moose Jaw Warriors 3

On the strength of a 3 goal 1st period, Calgary sent Moose Jaw to their fourth straight defeat, with 5,111 looking on at Scotiabank Saddlehome. Orca Wiesblatt had 2 goals and 1 assist for the Hitmen, Carson Focht scored twice, Mark Kastelic, Jonas Peterek and Sean Tschigerl once each. Jack McNaughton made 13 saves. For the Warriors, Ryder Korczak scored twice and Jadon Joseph once, with Bailey Brkim making 39 saves.

Lethbridge Hurricanes 2, Regina Pats 1

All scoring took place in the 1st period, as Lethbridge handed the Pats their 10th straight defeat. Jett Jones at even strength and Calen Addison on the power play scored for the Hurricanes, who got 32 saves from Carl Tetachuk. For the Pats, Zach Wytnick scored a power play goal, Danton Belluk made 19 saves. Attendance was 3,586 at Enmax Centre.

Edmonton Oil Kings 5, Red Deer Rebels 1

3 in the 1st and 2 in the 2nd propelled Edmonton to the win, in front of 3,638 at Westerner Park Centrium. Riley Sawchuk, Jalen Luypen, Josh Williams, Vladimir Alistrov and Matthew Robertson scored scored for the Oil Kings, Sebastian Cossa made 21 saves. For Red Deer, Chase Leslie scored, Ethan Anders and Byron Fancy combined to make 34 saves.

Kamloops Blazers 6, Vancouver Giants 0

Dylan Garand made 23 saves, Zane Franklin had 3 goals and an assist, to lead the Blazers past Vancouver, in front of 3,823 at Sandman Centre. Martin Lang had a goal and 2 assists, Logan Stankoven and Quinn Schmeimann a goal and assist each. For the Giants, David Tendeck had 24 saves.

Prince George Cougars 2, Spokane Chiefs 1

The Cougars won for the third time in four games, outlasting Spokane before 1,984 at CN Centre. Matej Toman and Tyson Upper scored 1st period goals for Prince George, Taylor Gauthier made 37 saves. Erik Atchison scored for the Chiefs, Campbell Arnold made 22 saves.

Victoria Royals 4, Swift Current Broncos 0

Brock Gould's 23 saves led the way for Victoria, who broke a four game winless streak, before 4,832 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena. Royals goal scorers were Tarun Fizer, who added 2 assists, Sean Gulka, Phillip Schultz and Brandon Cutler. Isaac Poulter made 36 saves for the Broncos, who were shut out for the second time in three games, along with being winless in their past six.

Everett Silvertips 5, Tri-City Americans 1

Two goals in both the 1st and 3rd periods propelled Everett to the win, before 3,859 at Angel of The Winds Arena. Bryce Kindopp scored twice for the Tips, Michal Gut, Dawson Butt and Gage Goncalves added singles, while Dustin Wolf chipped in with 23 saves. For the Americans, Sasha Mutala scored, Beck Warm and Talyn Boyko combined for 28 saves.

Brandon Wheat Kings 3, Seattle Thunderbirds 2 (OT)

Cole Reinhardt's second goal of the game, coming at 4:03 of overtime, pushed the Wheat Kings to the road win. Lynden McCallum scored for Brandon and Ethan Kruger made 30 saves for the Wheat Kings, who overcame a 2-0 3rd period deficit. Matthew Wedman scored both Seattle goals, Roddy Ross had 38 saves. Attendance at Accesso ShoWare Center was 4,251.
