Western Hockey League roundup for Saturday, October 26th, 2019













Edmonton Oil Kings 6, Seattle Thunderbirds 2

A 3 goal broke open a 1 goal game and swung it in favor of the hometown Oil Kings, before 6,265 at Rogers Centre. Dylan Guenther notched a hat trick for Edmonton, Riley Sawchuk, Josh Williams and Connor McDonald added singles, Sebastian Cossa made 28 saves. For Seattle, goal scorers were Henrik Rybinski and Matthew Wedman, Blake Lyda made 35 saves.

Medicine Hat Tigers 3, Lethbridge Hurricanes 2 (SO)

James Hamblin and Elijah Brown scored in regulation for Medicine Hat, then Hamblin scored in the first round of the deciding shoot out to send the Tigers to victory in front of 4,013 at Enmax Centre. Oliver Okullar and Dylan Cozens scored in regulation for Lethbridge. In goal, Garin Bjorklund made 30 saves for the Tigers, Carl Tetachuk made 41 saves for the Hurricanes.

Prince Albert Raiders 4, Spokane Chiefs 1

2 goals in the 1st and 2 more in the 3rd gave Prince Albert the road win, with 4,540 watching at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Aliaksel Protas scored twice for the Raiders, Ilya Usau and Landon Kosior once each, Boston Bilous made 21 saves. For the Chiefs, Campbell Arnold andBrett Balas combined to make 22 saves.

Tri-City Americans 5, Prince George Cougars 2

The Americans brace of goals in each of the final two periods sent the home crowd of 3,051 at the Toyota Center happy Saturday night. Nick Bowman had a goal and assist for Tri-City and the trio of Samuel Huo, Marc Lajoie and Sasha Mutala scored once each. Goaltender Talyn Boyko earned first star honors with a 39 save performance. For the Cougars, who since winning 3 of 4 in mid October have now lost 4 straight, Filip Koffer and Rhett Rhinehart were their goal scorers, while Tyler Brennan and Taylor Gauthier split time in net, making 20 saves. The two teams also combined for 75 penalty minutes.

Victoria Royals 2, Kamloops Blazers 1

The Royals outlasted the Blazers Saturday night, on the strength of Tarun Fizer and Will Warm goals and 34 saves from Shane Farkas. On the Kamloops side of the ledger, Zane Franklin scored late in the 3rd and Dylan Garand made 20 saves. Attendance at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena was 3,880.

Brandon Wheat Kings 5, Swift Current Broncos 1

Brecon Wood's goal at 5:15 of the 1st gave Swift Current an early lead but Brandon rebounded with 5 straight to win it before 1,926 at Innovation Credit Union I-Plex. Luka Burzan scored twice for the Wheat Kings, Connor Gutenberg, Riley Ginnell and Ben McCartney also scored for the visitors. Ethan Kruger made 22 saves for Brandon, Isaac Poulter 38 for the Broncos.
