Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, October 4th, 2019













Brandon Wheat Kings 3, Vancouver Giants 0

Jiri Patera made 40 saves and Ben McCartney, Luka Burzan and Braden Schneider scored goals to lead Brandon to the win, before 3,208 at Westoba Place. Trent Miner made 29 saves for the Giants.

Lethbridge Hurricanes 4, Portland Winterhawks 2

Lethbridge overcame a 2-0 deficit in the win over the league's last unbeaten team, before 4,081 at Enmax Centre. After Johnny Ludvig and Nick Cicek shorthanded staked the Hawks to a 2-0 lead, the 'Canes responded with 4 straight. D-Jay Jerome, Chase Wheatcroft, Dylan Cozens and Zack Stringer, into an empty net, scored for Lethbridge, with Bryan Thompson making 18 saves. Joef Hofer made 22 saves for Portland.

Saskatoon Blades 2, Prince Albert Raiders 1 (OT)

The game was tied 1-1 after one and stayed that way, until Saskatoon's Chase Wouters scored at 3:57 of overtime to give the Blades the win, before 2,687 at Art Hauser Centre. Aidan De La Gorgendiere scored at 6:21 of the first, to counter a goal at 1:52 of the 1st by PA's Ozzy Wiesblatt, to bring the Blades from behind for the win. Nolan Maier had 36 saves for the Blades, Boston Bilous 20 for Prince Albert.

Kelowna Rockets 2, Prince George Cougars 1

Pavel Novak scored twice, including the game winner at 18:11 of the 3rd, to push Kelowna past  winless Prince George, in front of 2,243 at CN Centre. Josh Maser's power play marker was the only goal for the Cougars, who fell to 0-4-0-1. Roman Basran made 27 saves for the Rockets, Taylor Gauthier 19 for the Cougars.

Medicine Hat Tigers 6, Regina Pats 2

Cole Sillinger scored twice, Ryan Chyzowski, Elijah Brown, Eric Van Impe and Caleb Willms once each and Garin Bjorklund made 22 saves, as Medicine Hat skated to the road win, before 4,111 at the Brandt Centre. Carter Massier and Ty Kolle scored for Regina, Max Paddock made 40 saves.

Spokane Chiefs 5, Seattle Thunderbirds 1

Spokane mashed the pedal with 3 first period goals, to cruise past Seattle, in front of 4,033 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Jake McGerew and Ty Smith scored twice each for the Chiefs, Luke Toporowski once and Campbell Arnold backstopped the effort with 30 saves. For the Thunderbirds, Keltie Jeri-Leon scored and Blake Lyda made 27 saves.

Red Deer Rebels 5, Swift Current Broncos 1

A 3 goal third period broke open a close game and propelled Red Deer to the win, before 1,966 at Innovation Credit Union I-Plex. Rebel goals were scored by Josh Tarzwell, Cameron Hausinger, Chris Douglas, Brett Davis and Keaton Sorensen scored goals, Ethan Anders made 27 saves. For Swift Current, Connor Horning scored, Isaac Poulter made 25 saves.

Edmonton Oil Kings 7, Winnipeg ICE 0

Edmonton rolled to the road win, with 3 goals in the first and 2 more in both the second and third periods at Wayne Fleming Arena. Vladamir Alistrov, Liam Keeler, Riley Sawchuk, Josh Williams, Scott Atkinson, Jake Neighbours and Connor McDonald scored goals, Sebastian Cossa stopped all 40 shots he faced. For the ICE, Will Gurski made 28 saves.
