Western Hockey League roundup for Sunday, October 6th, 2019













Calgary Hitmen 5, Portland Winterhawks 2

Calgary scored 3 times in the first to beat Portland, before 5,043 at Scotiabank Saddledome. Egor Zamula, Jett Woo, Tye Carriere and Orca Wiesblatt all rang up a goal and assist each, Josh Prokop also scored for Calgary, Jack McNaughton made 31 saves. For Portland, Seth Jarvis had a goal and assist, Jack O'Brien scored a goal and Joel Hofer made 24 saves for the Winterhawks, who dropped their second straight on their Eastern swing.

Moose Jaw Warriors 3, Regina Pats 0

The Warriors scored all three goals in the first period, while out-shooting Regina  12-1, in rolling to the win before 3,146 at Mosaic Place. Bailey Brkin posted a 19 save shut out, Owen Hardy, Carson Denomie on the power play and Eric Alarie scored the goals for Moose Jaw. For the Pats, Max Paddock made 22 saves.

Brandon Wheat Kings 5, Saskatoon Blades 4 (OT)

Ridly Greig and Luka Burzan scored in the shootout to give Brandon the extra standings point, with 2,776 looking on at SaskTel Centre. Greig scored twice in regulation for the Wheat Kings, who also saw Lynden McCallum and Connor Gutenberg hit the score sheet. Jiri Patera made 26 saves. For Saskatoon, Tristan Robins, Zach Huber, Kyle Crnkovic and Riley McKay scored for the Blades, who got a 29 save effort from Nolan Maier.

Everett Silvertips 4, Spokane Chiefs 3

A two-goal third period was the difference in Everett's road win, in front of 3,401 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Bryce Kindopp scored twice for the 'Tips, including the game-winner on the power play at 3:53 of the 3rd. Jacob Wright and Brendan Lee also scored for Everett, who benefited from a 27 save effort by Keegan Karki. On the Chiefs' side of the ledger, Bear Hughes, Adam Beckman and Brandon Reller scored goals, Campbell Arnold made 21 saves.
