Western Hockey League roundup for Saturday, October 5th, 2019













Edmonton Oil Kings 2, Brandon Wheat Kings 1

David Kops and Scott Atkinson scored for Edmonton, to counter a Brandon goal by Chad Nychuk late to regulation, in front of 3,363 at Westoba Place. Todd Scott made 39 saves for the Oil Kings, Ethan Kruger 32 for the Wheat Kings.

Vancouver Giants 4, Winnipeg ICE 0

36 saves by David Tendeck and goals by Milos Roman, Justin Lies, Evan Patrician and Bowen Byram powered Vancouver to the win at Wayne Fleming Arena. Gage Alexander had 26 saves for Winnipeg.

Prince Albert Raiders 6, Regina Pats 0

Regina put just 13 shots on goal and the Raiders' Boston Bilous stopped them all, to lead Prince Albert to the win before 2,671 at the Art Hauser Centre. Kaiden Guhle had a goal and 3 assists for the Raiders, followed by Zack Hayes, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Brayden Watts with a goal and assist each. Eric Pearce and Justin Nachbaur added goals for PA. Danton Beliuk and Max Paddock shared the net for Regina, making a total of 24 saves.

Seattle Thunderbirds 5, Victoria Royals 3

The Tbirds won Saturday night, with 4,127 looking on at Accesso ShoWare Center. Connor Roulette scored the hat trick for Seattle, Keltie Jeri-Leon and Andrej Kukuca also tallied for the Thunderbirds, who also got a 25 save performance from Roddy Ross. For Victoria, Jacor Herauf, Tarun Fizer and Gary Haden scored goals, Brock Gould made 24 saves.

Red Deer Rebels 4, Medicine Hat Tigers 3 (OT)

A Chris Douglas goal 38 seconds into overtime was the winner, as Red Deer won before 2,860 at Canalta Centre. Jaxsen Wiebe scored in the 1st period, Brett Davis and Ethan Sakowich in the 2nd for the Rebels. For Medicine Hat, Trevor Longo, Ryan Chyzowski and James Hamblin on a penalty shot at 13:02 of the 3rd all scored for the Tigers. Ethan Anders made 39 saves for Red Deer, Mads Sogaard 17 for the Tigers.

Everett Silvertips 3, Kamloops Blazers 2

A 2 goal first period was the springboard for Everett's win, in front of 3,453 at the Sandman Centre. Bryce Kindopp scored both 1st period goals for the Tips, with Michal Gut scoring in the second. For Kamloops, Connor Zary and Caedan Bankler scored, Dylan Garand made 21 saves. In net for Everett, Dustin Wolf had 34 saves.

Prince George Cougars 4, Kelowna Rockets 1

The Cougars landed in the win column for the first time this season, with 2,049 in the stands at CN Centre. Filip Koffer had a goal and 2 assists and Jack Sander had a goal and assist for P.G., Ethan Samson and Josh Maser scored goals and Tyler Brennan made 26 saves. For Kelowna, Nolan Foote scored, Roman Basran made 28 saves.

Spokane Chiefs 7, Tri-City Americans 1

It was the Americans' home opener at Toyota Center and 5,266 looked on in disbelief, as the Chiefs rolled to the victory on the strength of a 4 goal 1st period.Ty Smith, Eli Zummack, Jack Finley, Connor Gabruch, Adam Beckman, Bobby Russell and Bear Hughes scored for Spokane, with Lukas Parik making 18 saves. Marc Lajoie scored the lone Tri-City goal and Beck Warm went the distance in net, stopping 26 shots.
