Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, November 1st, 2019













Brandon Wheat Kings 5, Swift Current Broncos 0

Ethan Kruger made 24 saves and Nolan Ritchie had 2 goals and an assist to lead the Wheat Kings to the win before 3,593 at Westoba Place. Cole Reinhardt, Ben McCartney and Riley Ginnell also scored for Brandon. For the Broncos, Reece Klassen made 48 saves.

Lethbridge Hurricanes 8, Winnipeg ICE 2

A 5 goal 2nd period clinched things for the Hurricanes at Wayne Fleming Arena. For Lethbridge, Oliver Okuliar tallied 3 goals and an assist, Dylan Cozens a goal and 3 assists, Alex Cotton a goal and 2 assists, Chase Wheatcroft a goal and an assist, with Jay Jerome and Justin Hall adding a goal each. Bryan Thompson had 25 saves. For Winnipeg, Cole Muir and Michal Teply scored goals, Jessee Makaj and Dean McNabb combined to make 25 saves.

Edmonton Oil Kings 4, Saskatoon Blades 3

Scott Atkinson's goal at 11:56 of the 3rd pushed Edmonton to the win, with 5,872 looking on at Rogers Place. Josh Williams scored twice and Jake Neighbours once, Sebastian Cossa made 26 saves. The Blades offense came from goals by Nolan Kneen, Scott Walford and Eric Florchuk. Nolan Maier made 31 saves.

Moose Jaw Warriors 5, Red Deer Rebels 2

Both teams scored twice in the 3rd, but it was a 3 goal 2nd period that took the night for Moose Jaw, in front of 3,008 at Mosaic Place. Brayden Tracey led the Warriors with 4 goals, Matthew Benson scored once and Adam Evanoff made 36 saves. Red Deer goals were scored by Chris Douglas and Jaxsen Wiebe, Ethan Anders teamed with Byron Fancy to make 12 saves.

Prince Albert Raiders 6, Regina Pats 3

The Raiders, trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes, outscored the Pats 5-1 in the 3rd to take the win, with 2,703 in attendance at Art Hauser Centre. Spencer Moe scored twice for Prince Albert, Ozzy Wiesblatt, Reece Vitelli, Aliaksel Protas and Brayden Watts once each. Boston Bilous stopped 23 shots. The Pats got goals from Logan Nijhoff, who scored twice and Drew Englot, scoring once. Max Paddock made 35 saves for Regina.

Kelowna Rockets 6, Prince George Cougars 2

Kelowna scored 4 times in the 2nd period, good enough for the win. For the Rockets, Pavel Novak scored the first 3 goals of the game, Leif Mattson, Alex Swetlikoff and Nolan Foote added singles and Roman Basran made 28 saves. For the Cougars, Matej Toman and Reid Perepeliuk scored goals, Jacob Herman made 27 saves. Attendance at Prospera Place was 5,227.

Tri-City Americans 5, Seattle Thunderbirds 2

3 straight goals busted open a tie game in the 3rd, giving Tri-City the win, with 3,027 in the seats in the Toyota Center. Edge Lambert and Samuel Stewart scored 2nd period goals for the Americans, Paycen Bjorklund scored the winner at 2:07 of the 3rd, with Connor Bouchard and Marc Lajoie adding empty net goals in the final 2 minutes. Beck Warm backstopped the win, making 26 saves. For the Thunderbirds, Ryan Gotfried and AndrejKukuca scored the goals, Roddy Ross made 36 saves.

Portland Winterhawks 4, Everett Silvertips 1

A 2-for-5 power play was the springboard to a solid road win for Portland, vaulting them over Everett and into 1st place in the U.S. Division. Seth Jarvis, Mason Mannek, Lane Gilliss and Matthew Quigley scored for Portland, Joel Hofer had 28 saves. Parker Hendren scored for Everett, Dustin Wolf and Keegan Karki combined to make 26 saves. Attendance at Angel of The Winds Arena was 4,314.
