Western Hockey League roundup for Saturday, November 16th, 2019













Regina Pats 4, Prince Albert Raiders 3 (SO)

The Pats let a 3-1 lead slip away, then recovered to win their third game of the season in a shootout, in front of 4,780 at Brandt Centre. After Kaiden Guhle staked the Raiders to a lead halfway through the first, the Pats responded with goals by Ty Kolle, Carter Chorney and Logan Nijhoff to take a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd. Prince Albert came back with a late 2nd period goal by Reece Vitelli and a goal at 6:39 of the 3rd from Aliaksel Protas, to tie the game and force overtime. After a scoreless extra session, the game progressed to the deciding shootout. The only goal was scored in round 1 by Ty Kolle, giving the Pats the win. Max Paddock had a big night in goal for Regina, making 33 saves. For the Raiders, Boston Bilous had 24 saves.

Calgary Hitmen 4, Saskatoon Blades 1

Calgary scored twice in each of the first two periods to win before 3,218 at SaskTel Centre. Mark Kastelic scored twice for Calgary, Luke Prokop and Hunter Campbell once, Jack McNaughton made 18 saves. Riley McKay scored for the Blades, Nolam Maier made 24 saves.

Seattle Thunderbirds 5, Portland Winterhawks 4 (SO)

Portland came from 3-1 down to force overtime, but Seattle would go on to the shootout win, with 5,554 looking on at Accesso Showare Center. Alex Morozoff, Connor Bruggen-Cate, Payton Mount and Keltie Jeri-Leon scored in regulation for Seattle, Mount and Simon Kubicek scored in the shootout for the Thunderbirds, who also got 47 saves from Roddy Ross. For Portland, goal scorers were Johnny Ludvig, James Stefan, Jaydon Dureau and Gabe Klassen, Isaiah DiLaura made 23 saves, including stopping a penalty shot by Henrik Rybinski with 24 seconds left in overtime.

Swift Current Broncos 7, Moose Jaw Warriors 3

A 4-goal 2nd period propelled Swift Current to the win,before 1,983 at Innovation Credit Union I-Plex. Jaxan Kaluski lead the Broncos with 2 goals and 2 assists, Sergei Alkhimov, Matthew Culling, Brecon Wood and Ethan Regnier had a goal and assist each, Aiden Bulych scored a goal, Isaac Poulter had 21 saves. For Moose Jaw, Ryder Korczak tallied a goal and 2 assists, Brayden Tracey had a goal and an assist, Owen Hardy a goal, with Jackson Berry and Adam Evanoff combining for 38 saves.

Red Deer Rebels 4, Brandon Wheat Kings 3

Red Deer's 3 goal 1st period was the difference, with 3,794 watching at Westerner Park Centrium. Arshdeep Bains, Dawson Barteaux, Ethan Rowland and Josh Trazwell scored for the Rebels, Byron Fancy had 37 stops. For Brandon, Cole Reonhardt scored twice, Ben McCartney once, Jiri Patera made 21 saves.

Medicine Hat Tigers 5, Edmonton Oil Kings 1

A 3-goal 2nd period fueled the Tigers win, before 2,940 at Canalta Centre. For Medicine Hat, James Hamblin had 2 goals and 1 assist, Corson Hopwo scored twice, Cole Sillinger once and Mads Sogaard made31 saves. For Edmonton, Carter Souch scored, Todd Scott made 22 saves.

Winnipeg ICE 5, Everett Silvertips 4 (OT)

Winnipeg's Chase Hartje scored at 39 seconds of overtime to boost the ICE to the win, in front of 7,017 at Angel of The Winds Arena. Other Winnipeg goals were scored by Cole Muir, Logan Danis, Jackson Leppard and Nino Kinderm who forced the OT by scoring with 41 seconds left in regulation. Jesse Makaj made 23 saves. For Everett, Jackson Berezowski, Max Patterson, Brendan Lee and Michal Gut scored, Keegan Karki made 30 saves.

Vancouver Giants 4, Prince George Cougars 0

David Tendeck made 38 saves and Milos Roman scored twice to lead the Giants, in front of 3,687 at Langley Events Centre.Cole Shepard and Tristen Nielsen scored the other Vancouver goals. For Prince George, blanked for the second time in as many nights, Tyler Brennan made 19 saves.

Kelowna Rockets 4, Kamloops Blazers 3

Alex Swetlikoff scored at 13:46 of the 3rd to propel Kelowna to the win, before 5,613 at Prospera Place. Other goal scorers for the Rockets were Jake Poole, Dillon Hamaliuk and Kyle Crosbie. Roman Basran had 27 saves. For Kamloops, Logan Stankoven, Ryan Hughes and Orrin Centazzo scored, Dylan Garand made 35 saves.

Spokane Chiefs 4, Tri-City Americans 3

Spokane won for the second straight night on the road, thanks to a pair of goals by Adam Beckman, with singles added by Bear Hughes and Cordel Larson, with Lukas Parik making 29 saves. For Tri-City, Krystof Hrabik, Nick Bowman and Blake Stevenson scored, Beck Warm had 35 saves. Attendance at Toyota Center was 4,938.
