Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, November 8th, 2019



Moose Jaw Warriors 3, Winnipeg ICE 2

Goals by Carson Denomie, Alek Sukunda and Cory King were enough for Moose Jaw to best the ICE before 3,037 at Mosaic Place. Michal Teply and Connor McClennon scored for Winnipeg. In net, Adam Evanoff made 36 saves for Moose Jaw, Jessee Makaj had 24 saves for the ICE.

Tri-City Americans 4, Calgary Hitmen 3 (SO)

Connor Bouchard's goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation forced overtime, then the Americans took the extra standings point by besting Calgary in the shootout 1-0. Kyle Olson and Nick Bowman also scored for Tri-City and Bouchard scored the lone shootout goal, Beck Warm had 46 saves. For the Hitmen, Egor Zamula, Mark Kastelic and former American Carson Focht scored goals, Jack McNaughton made 35 saves. Ateendance at Scotiabank Saddledome was 6,970.

Prince Albert Raiders 6, Brandon Wheat Kings 3

Two big periods for the Raiders Friday night, scoring 4 in the 1st and 2 more in the 3rd to win with 2,715 looking on at Art Hauser Centre. Zack Hayes had a goal and an assist for Prince Albert as did Jakob Brook and Eric Pearce, with Ozzy Wiesblatt, Evan Herman and Brayden Watts. Boston Bilous grabbed the win, making 19 saves. For the Wheat Kings, Luka Burzan scored twice, Nolan Ritchie once and Ethan Kruger and Jiri Patera teaming up for 15 saves.

Saskatoon Blades 3, Red Deer Rebels 1

A 2 goal 2nd period pushed the Blades to the win, before 3,330 at SaskTel Centre. Radek Kucerik, Kyle Crnkovic and Eric Florchuk scored for the Blades, Nolan Maier made 28 saves. For the Raiders, Dallon Melin scored, Byron Fancy had 20 saves.

Lethbridge Hurricanes 4, Edmonton Oil Kings 3 (SO)

A 3 goal 3rd period forced extra hockey, then Lethbridge prevailed 1-0 in the shootout for the extra standings point. 3,696 watched at Enmax Centre, as the Canes came from 3-0 down, on goals by Oliver Okuliar, Dylan Cozens and Alex Cotton scored in the 3rd period, the D-Jay Jerome scored in the 4th round of the shootout. Carl Tetachuk made 32 saves for Lethbridge. Scott Atkinson, Liam Keeler and Riley Sawchuk scored for Edmonton, Sebastian Cossa made 36 saves.

Victoria Royals 3, Prince George Cougars 2 (SO)

Both teams scored twice in the 3rd period, then Kaid Oliver and Tarun Fizer scored shootout goals to hand Victoria the extra standings point, in front of 2,048 at CN Centre. Oliver and Phillip Schultz scored regulation goals for the Royals, Brock Gould made 20 stops. For the Cougars, Josh Maser and Connor Bowie scored regulation goals, Ethan Browne tallied a shootout marker and Taylor Gautheir made 22 saves.

Medicine Hat Tigers 8, Kelowna Rockets 5

In one of those last guy who scores, turn out the lights affairs, Medicine Hat scored 3 goals in each of the final two periods to grab the win, before 5,223 at Prospera Place. Jonathan Brinkman, Tyler Preziuso and Jonathan Brinkman led the Tigers attack with a goal and 2 assists each. Daniel Baker and Bryan Lockner had a goal and assist each, Eric Van Impe, Brett Kemp and Trevor Lomgo scored goals, Mads Sogaard racked up 28 saves. For Kelowna, Leif Mattson scored twice, Michael Farren, Alex Swetlikoff and Kobe Mohr once each, Roman Basran made 33 saves.

Everett Silvertips 4, Spokane Chiefs 3

Everett built a 4-1 lead, then hung on for the win, in front of 4,818 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Gage Goncalves tallied a pair for the Tips, Conrad Mitchell and Jackson Berezowski added singles and Dustin Wolf made 34 saves. Spokane's Filip Kral, Adam Beckman and Eli Zummack scored goals, Campbell Arnold made 22 saves.

Vancouver Giants 3, Portland Winterhawks 1

The Giants topped Portland, thanks to goals by Lukas Svejkovsky, Tanner Brown and Evan Patrician. The Winterhawks' Reece Newkirk scored the lone marker for the visitors. Trent Miner made 26 saves for Vancouver, Joel Hofer had 35 saves. Attendance was 3,867 at Langley Events Centre.

Kamloops Blazers 7, Seattle Thunderbirds 4

Kamloops skated to the win on the strength of 3 goals in each of the 1st and 3rd periods, with 3,596 watching at Accesso ShoWare Centre. Connor Zary had a pair of goals for the Blazers, Brodi Stuart a goal and 3 assists, Martin Lang, Orrin Centazzo and Ryley Appelt a goal and assist each, Luka Zazula a goal, Ryan Hughes 3 assists and Dylan Garand 36 saves. For Seattle, offense was supplied by Michael Horon, Conner Bruggen-Cate and Matthew Wedman a goal and assist each, Keltie Jeri-Leon a goal and Roddy Ross 30 saves.
