The Rays were off last night. In tonight's pitching matchup, Wade Davis(12-9, 4.24 ) is on the mound for the Rays against the Angels' Dan Haren(10-12, 4.09).....After he nailed down Wednesday's series finale against the Yankees, closer Rafael Soriano's 43 saves tied him for the franchise record for saves in a single season, so it's possible he can break the record tonight. The mark is shared by Roberto Hernandez, who saved 43 games in 1999....Left fielder Carl Crawford has 12 triples, which is tied with Colorado's Dexter Fowler for the Major League lead. Crawford had four on the recent trip and has the most since 2006, when he had 16. He's seven off his career high of 19 three-base hits set in 2004. He's bidding to become the fifth player to lead the AL in triples four times (also 2004-06) and the third to lead the AL outright in four seasons....Rays hitters have 607 walks and are on pace to shatter the club record of 642 set last year. They also lead the AL in strikeouts with 1,155.

Today is VFW Ladie's Auxiliary Day.

Yom Kippur begins at sundown tonight.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have reached the summit. Maintaining their footing upon that lofty perch for the final 15 games becomes their new challenge.
San Francisco claimed first place in the National League West in commanding fashion Thursday night, as Aubrey Huff, Buster Posey and Jose Guillen homered through the fog to complement Jonathan Sanchez's career-high 12-strikeout performance in a 10-2 pasting of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Read the rest here.
Notes: Madison Bumgarner(5-5, 3.28) goes to the mound tonight for the Giants against the Brewers' Randy Wolf(11-11, 4.53)....Rookie lefty Bumgarner has won five of his last seven starts, and in his past three starts, he has allowed only two earned runs in 20 1/3 innings for an 0.89 ERA. He faced the Brewers in his third career start on July 6 to earn his first big league victory, throwing a career-high eight innings and allowing zero runs on three hits....With Andres Torres out after an appendectomy in San Diego last weekend, the Giants will mostly be putting veterans Aaron Rowand and Cody Ross in center field, and in Tuesday's first game without Torres it was Ross in the leadoff spot. "You'll see one of those two out there for the most part," Bochy said. "Right now we need experience, and these guys have been through it and know how to play and are looking forward to getting some opportunities."....This series marks the last matchup for the Brewers against an NL West team, and they head into it with a 13-20 mark, including 0-4 vs. the Giants from a four-game sweep at Miller Park in July....The Giants conclude their competition vs. the NL Central with this series and three games vs. the Cubs at Wrigley Field. They enter this weekend with a 25-11 mark. ...Saturday's starters Yovani Gallardo of the Brewers and Tim Lincecum of the Giants enter the series tied for the highest ratio of strikeouts per nine innings, at 9.7....The Brewers announced that they have extended their affiliation with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds.
