ST. PETERSBURG -- Where Dan Johnson is concerned, there is no comparison to Roy Hobbs, according to Rays manager Joe Maddon.

"If Roy Hobbs is The Natural, then I guess (Johnson's) 'The Super-Natural,'" said Maddon, who was ejected in the seventh arguing a hit-by-pitch call on Derek Jeter. "Because the other thing was fiction, this is non-fiction. So for that reason, what he's done to this point is really phenomenal."

Johnson accounted for all the Rays' runs with a pair of two-run homers to create a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field in front of 29,733.

Read the rest here.

Notes: The Rays are off tonight. In Friday's pitching matchup, Wade Davis(12-9, 4.24 ) is on the mound for the Rays against the Angels' Dan Haren(10-12, 4.09).....After he nailed down Wednesday's series finale against the Yankees, closer Rafael Soriano's 43 saves tied him for the franchise record for saves in a single season, so it's possible he can break the record Friday. The mark is shared by Roberto Hernandez, who saved 43 games in 1999....Left fielder Carl Crawford has 12 triples, which is tied with Colorado's Dexter Fowler for the Major League lead. Crawford had four on the recent trip and has the most since 2006, when he had 16. He's seven off his career high of 19 three-base hits set in 2004. He's bidding to become the fifth player to lead the AL in triples four times (also 2004-06) and the third to lead the AL outright in four seasons....Rays hitters have 607 walks and are on pace to shatter the club record of 642 set last year. They also lead the AL in strikeouts with 1,155.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Five Giants pitchers combined to one-hit the Dodgers on Tuesday night, and usually a performance of that caliber is good enough for a victory.

Instead, a wild sixth inning featuring a hit batter, two walks and an error on a makeable play was the difference, as Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw outshone San Francisco's collective effort with his first career shutout to beat the Giants, 1-0, at AT&T Park.

Read the rest here.

Notes: Jonathan Sanchez(10-8, 3.29) goes to the mound tonight for the Giants against the Dodgers' Ted Lilly(8-10, 3.58)....San Francisco is hopeful outfielder Jose Guillen will be fit to return to action Thursday after missing Wednesday's contest following an epidural shot for a bulging disk in his neck. Guillen is batting .280 with a home run and seven RBIs since the Giants acquired him on Aug. 13, a span of 26 games....The Giants hold a 9-8 advantage heading into Thursday's contest, the season's final meeting between the two rivals.
